Go-getter Josh Schuster building his own real estate legacy

REW Staff
Josh Schuster is just 30 years old, but he lays claim to $500 million worth of residential and mixed-use development to date, and another $200 million pipeline across New York City. But his grandson grew up far from the world of zoning and construction permits, on 26 acres in rural Ohio. He drove 60 miles each way to go to school.

One of the most highly-publicized and hotly-anticipated waterfront projects is Two Trees’ $1.5 billion re-development of the former Domino Sugar Factory in Williamsburg into a mixed-use community.

Sarah Trefethen
Lew Rudin made his mark advocating for and advancing the role of real estate interests in the New York City’s civic life. His legacy lives on in his family, but he might not have fully approved of his firm’s current signature project, the redevelopment of St Vincent’s Hospital. “My dad always said, don’t get involved with a zoning change or ULURP,” said Lew’s son, Bill Rudin, now CEO of Rudin Management. “He wasn’t around so we didn’t quite listen to him.” But in other ways the goals of the project epitomize Lew Rudin’s commitment to public-private partnership and a philosophy he called “enlightened self-interest.”
