A Turkish charity group has filed plans to build a 21-story mixed-use building at 300 East 41st Street in Murray Hill.
According to a permit application filed with the Department of Buildings, the Turken Foundation, an organization that aims to provide “proper student housing services to Turkish students,” is looking to construct a 60,475 s/f building. Plans call for 56,993 s/f of residential space and 3,482 s/f of commercial space. Turken wants to build 82 apartment units at the site.
Turken bought the property, which is near the United Nations Headquarters, for $15.59 million in 2015, according to property records. The previous owner was Twin Development LLC. The proposed building will replace a one-story commercial building with 2,940 s/f of space.
The building is not the only New York City property in Turken’s portfolio. It also owns 766 Second Avenue. Last September, Turken filed an application to demolish the one-story property at the site.
The planned building at 300 East 41st St. will be designed by Perkins+Will Architects. Turken applied for a demolition permit last September.
