The Architectural Team tapped to renovate Jersey City project

The Architectural Team, experts in affordable housing and adaptive reuse, announced its selection as architect for a major renovation of  a 14-building, 131-unit affordable housing community in Jersey City, New Jersey, called the Brunswick Estates.

ThE renovation is part of a new initiative by Jersey City Mayor Steven M. Fulop to expand affordable housing options in one of the New York Metro area’s fastest-growing cities.

The original complex was designed by architect Don M. Hisaka, and completed in the early 1980s.

As part of a $40.2 million renovation, The Architectural Team (TAT) will carry out interior and exterior upgrades to the Brunswick Estates complex.

The renovation will repair lingering damage from Hurricane Sandy, address ADA compliance concerns in order to make the complex more accessible, and improve energy efficiency through the installation of Energy Star appliances and fixtures and high quality insulation.

In addition, TAT will improve the visual character of the buildings through repainting and recladding, and create community and green spaces by increasing planting areas and consolidating hard surfaces and walkways.
