Construction Industry Conference

Nov. 7: Anchin, Block & Anchin will host its 14th annual State of the Construction Industry Conference from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. at The Harvard Club at 35 West 44th Street. This year’s theme is Building the Future: Transportation and Transformative Projects, featuring keynote speaker Rick Cotton, Executive Director, The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. The event also features a panel moderated by Carlo Scissura, President and CEO, New York Building Congress, and including distinguished speakers Samara Barend, AECOM; Hope Knight, Greater Jamaica Development Corporation; Ryan Marzullo, Delta; and Michael Sweeney, Leader of the Eastern Region, HNTB.


Nov. 4: NAIOP New Jersey will recognize the outstanding service and contributions of its volunteer leaders at the Annual President’s Awards and Hall of Fame Dinner at the Hilton Meadowlands, with networking and cocktails at 4:30 p.m. followed by dinner and the awards presentation at 5:45 p.m. Anne Evans Estabrook of Elberon Development Group, Mindy Lissner of CBRE, and Diana Fainberg of D.E. Fainberg Associates will be inducted into The NAIOP New Jersey Hall of Fame. The Legacy Award will be presented to Peter Reinhart, director of the Kislak Real Estate Institute at Monmouth University. Susan Karp of Karp Environmental Law will receive the Pillar Award. Steve Santola of Woodmont Properties LLC will be presented with the Advocacy Award and Gensler’s Dana Nalbantian will be recognized as Volunteer of the Year. Carlos Torres of Turner Construction Company will receive the Rising Star Award, and the Student Member of the Year will be presented to Robert Thomson, who is attending Roger Williams University. Building Forum


Nov. 5: The Facade Tectonics Institute (FTI) will host Material Matters at the Princeton Club. The half-day Forum from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. is being hosted by the Ornamental Metal Institute of New York (OMINY) and will consist of three expert-led discussions surrounding to distinct issues, trends and emerging practices in New York City’s urban habitat and built environment. The Forum will be followed by a networking and cocktail reception hosted by OMINY at the Princeton Club. Panelists include Stephen Weinryb, Technical Principal, HOK; Chris McMartin, Manager of the Design and Construction Department, Tishman Speyer; David W. Avenue of the Americas Association

Nov. 5:  The 93rd Annual Gala will be held at Gotham Hall. Rockefeller Group will be presented with the Gold Key Award for their dedicated work on 1271 Avenue of the Americas. Guests will enjoy fine dining and a performance by The Harlem Gospel Choir. DOCOMOMO benefit

Nov. 12: The New York branch of the International Committee for Documentation and Conservation of Buildings, Sites and Neighborhoods of the Modern Movement will host A Modern Affair at the Ford Foundation Center for Social Justice. The event will support DOCOMOMO US/New York Tri-State, honor the Ford Foundation Center For Social Justice for the renovation of its landmark building, and celebrate the legacies of Kevin Roche and Dan Kiley. Nov. 12-13: Reed MIDEM and MetaProp NYC host the third annual 2019 MIPIM PropTech NYC Summit at the Metropolitan Pavilion in Manhattan.  This year’s  lineup includes Anthony E. BTEA Awards Breakfast
Nov. 14: The Building Trades Employers’ Association (BTEA)  2019 Construction Safety Awards Breakfast will take place from 8:00 a.m. to noon at Second, an event space at 849 Sixth Avenue in Manhattan. Keynote speaker is Melanie La Rocca, Commissioner of the New York City Department of Buildings, and there will be a special presentation on construction safety trends from the Occupational Health and Safety Administration and Department of Buildings. Nov. 14:  WX New York Women Executives in Real Estate (WX) will host its 2019 Woman of the Year Gala from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm at The Pierre, 2 East 61st Street, New York City.  This year’s honoree for Woman of the Year is Paula Schaefer, Senior Vice President at Clarion Partner, and long-time member of WX.  Proceeds from the event are used to fund scholarships for women entering the real estate profession in the NYC area, and to pay for educational, professional development and networking events for the organization’s Mentoring program.  For details visit
