WHO’S NEWS: Latest appointments & promotions

GTIS Partners has hired Gary Davis, Bill Mumford and Kurt Rouse.
They join Teddy Karatz, Senior Director of Acquisitions and Development, and Scott Bordogna, Director of Asset Management, within the firm’s single-family build-to rent platform to expand regional site and project sourcing and bolster the firm’s in-house development capabilities.
Gary Davis, Head of Development, will oversee the development of the firm’s build-to-rent communities and was most recently Director of Development for Mack Real Estate Group. Prior to Mack, Davis worked with Rob Vahradian, partner and Head of US Investments at GTIS, at The Athena Group.
Bill Mumford, Senior Director of Acquisitions and Development, will launch and operate out of the GTIS office in North Carolina. He was previously tasked with expanding the presence of Beechwood Homes in North Carolina. Before that, Mumford spent 17 years with Newland Real Estate Group.
Kurt Rouse, Vice President of Development, will focus on project and development management for GTIS’ BTR projects in the Phoenix MSA. He is a licensed general contractor with 30 years of homebuilding operations and real estate development experience. Previously, he was a General Manager at Morgan Taylor Homes, vice president of operations at Meritage Homes and Ryland Homes, and director of purchasing at Engle Homes.

RM Friedland has added veteran real estate executive Charles Dewey to the firm’s investment sales division.
Dewey began his career as director of new business and development for Pappas Enterprises a Boston-based developer.
He spearheaded large-scale real estate projects in downtown White Plains, developing over three million square feet of space including Gateway I. Subsequently, he held top-level positions with Mutual of New York and Advantage Real Estate Services.
Dewey most recently served as President and Managing Member of DDDG, LLC which specializes in real estate development, financing, acquisitions and dispositions, and co-investment opportunities.
He received his BA from the University of Pennsylvania and his MBA from Wharton School of Business.

SCG Retail, a division of TSCG, based in Atlanta, announced the hiring of Geoffrey Marshall Smith, a veteran commercial real estate expert with nearly 20 years of experience including several high-profile international projects in the Middle East and South America.
Smith was the head of leasing for the Mall of Qatar, responsible for pre-leasing and leasing of the entire center completing leases for 110 food & beverage outlets, family entertainment retailers, as well as a full range of retail shops & kiosks, including La Duree, Bulgari and Valentino.
Smith was also a consultant on the Megapolis Hard Rock Hotel and Convention Center in Panama City, Panama.
During the pandemic, Smith was working coast-to-coast, helping clients navigate the uncertainty. He earned a BA from the University of Southern California and Masters in Real Estate Finance and Investment/Global Development at the NYU Schack Real Estate Institute.
He will be working out of SCG Retail/TSCG’s Manhattan office.

AmTrust Title Insurance Company has named Nicolette Sinatra as its new Business Development Representative in New York.
Prior to AmTrust, Sinatra served as Associate General Counsel for The Witkoff Group. She also previously served as an attorney for Alston & Bird, vice president at Merrill Lynch Mortgage Lending, Of Counsel at Seyfarth Shaw and associate at Pryor Cashman Sherman & Flynn and Sullivan and Worcester. She began her career as Assistant District Attorney of Kings County in Brooklyn, NY.
Sinatra earned her Juris Doctor degree from St. John’s University School of Law and her Bachelor of Science degree in marketing and international business from New York University.

DLP Real Estate Capital has promoted Scott Meyers to president of DLP Lending.
Meyers has over 18 years of experience in real estate, mortgage note investment, servicing, and investment lending. He previously served as SVP of Sales for DLP Lending.
In his new leadership role, Meyers will drive the company’s growth with lending products and membership programs for clients and Elite Housing Operators.
As part of his role, he will oversee the launch of the DLP Lending Affiliate Program. Additionally, he will help drive the growth and development of DLP’s loan servicing division.

Sadie McKeown, executive vice president and head of construction lending at The Community Preservation Corporation (CPC), has been nominated by Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to serve on the boards for the New York Housing Financing Agency (HFA) and New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA).
Her appointment was confirmed by the New York State Senate.
McKeon has served CPC for nearly three decades, and currently leads the company’s construction lending activities. She also oversees its sustainability practice, the ACCESS fund, to strengthen and support BIPOC developers and real estate entrepreneurs, and CPC’s partnership with New York State in providing COVID relief funding to small multifamily building owners.
These appointments are a continuation and recognition of the work that CPC, under Sadie’s guidance has accomplished, as the HFA works to finance low- and moderate-income rental housing, while NYSERDA promotes energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy sources.

EisnerAmper announced that Mark Brown has joined the firm as a Managing Director in its Forensic, Litigation and Valuation Services practice.
Brown has 25 years of experience performing economic, accounting and financial analysis, providing forensic services to a variety of business sectors, and assisting private equity firms in delivering forensic services to portfolio companies.
His experience also includes compliance program design, gap analysis and risk assessments, including anti-fraud controls and anti-bribery.
Brown has a B.A. in Economics and Philosophy from the University of Toronto, an M.B.A. in Accounting from Cornell University, and a J.D. from the University of Windsor. He holds the Certified Fraud Examiner designation and is a member of the New York, Ontario and American Bar Associations.

ShopOne Centers REIT has appointed experienced public REIT executive Michael Makinen as Chief Operating Officer.
Makinen, who has more than 25-years of industry experience and, prior to joining ShopOne, served as Chief Operating Officer at SITE Centers, where he was responsible for the operations and financial results of the company’s 151 property-portfolio as well as the external management of Retail Value Inc., an owner of discount-oriented retail centers throughout the Continental U.S. and Puerto Rico that was spun-out of SITE Centers in July 2018.
Makinen also served as Chief Operating Officer for Equity One, Inc. and Olshan Properties, Inc. in his career, and held leadership positions at United Retail Group – Avenue Stores, Linens ‘n Things, Inc., Thompson Associate, Inc. and Howard L. Green and Associates, Inc.

Sentinel Real Estate Corporation announced that Scott Barsky has joined the firm as a First Vice President.
He will work with Managing Director Scott Arden to lead the firm’s North American capital-raising and investor relations activities.
Barsky previously spent nearly 10 years at Torchlight Investors, a U.S. real estate debt investment manager, where he was a Vice President on the investor relations team. He began his career at Bank of America, where he worked in risk management.
Barsky holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and History from the University of Virginia and is a member of the Pension Real Estate Association.

Greystone announced that Alison Coen has joined as a Senior Managing Director in the firm’s CMBS lending group, based in New York.
With 25 years of CRE industry experience, Coen joins Greystone from Barclays, where she was a Managing Director. Prior to her time at Barclays, Coen was a Director at Natixis Real Estate Finance and, earlier, spent almost six years at Citigroup, where she worked with the large loan securitization group and as a loan originator.
Coen received a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy from the University of Illinois.

Brandon Polakoff has been promoted to principal and executive director of Tri-State Investment Sales at Avison Young.
Polakoff has served as Senior Director in the Tri-State Investment Sales group for the last three years.
His recent notable deals include a three-property assemblage at 190, 196 and 198 Prince Street for $31.5 million; 344-348 East 62nd Street for $35.5 million and 109 Avenue A for $20.75 million.
Polakoff works alongside James Nelson, principal and head of Tri-State Investment Sales. This year, he was finalist in the Real Estate Board of New York’s Most Ingenious Deal of the Year Awards for navigating the sale of 198 Prince Street.Last year, Avison Young named him to its Circle of Excellence for top producers in 2020.
Prior to Avison Young, Polakoff was an associate director in the Investment Sales Group at Cushman & Wakefield.

Newmark announce that Mark Capasso has joined Valuation & Advisory as an executive vice president and member of the Hospitality, Gaming & Leisure practice.
Capasso, based in the firm’s El Segundo, California office, brings more than 30 years of experience providing appraisal and consulting services for hotels and casinos.
Before joining Newmark, Capasso was with Cushman & Wakefield’s Valuation & Advisory practice for 17 years, most recently serving as an Executive Director and the North American Practice Leader of its Hospitality & Gaming group, managing a team of appraisers. Before that, he worked in HVS’ Gaming Services division for nine years.

Romer Debbas announced that Stephanie King has joined the firm as a senior associate/team leader in the residential real estate department.
King will utilize her experience with condominiums, cooperatives and both single and multi-family dwellings in New York.
She is a graduate of Rutgers University and received a Juris Doctorate degree from Georgetown University.
