WHO’S NEWS: John Farrell, Justin DiMare, Alexa Sewell

Real estate veteran John Farrell has joined Cohen Brothers Realty Corporation as vice president, leasing.
He brings over 25 years of experience and knowledge in commercial and retail real estate leasing and development from a variety of positions with Helmsley Spear, Bohn-Fiore, and, most recently, from Oldfield Realty Group.

At Cohen Brothers, he will be involved in closing office and retail leasing transactions throughout the company’s multi-million square foot Class A Manhattan commercial real estate portfolio.
Farrell earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Penn State University.

Justin DiMare with NGKF Capital Markets has been promoted to managing director.

Over the last three years, DiMare assisted in transactions totaling more than $1 billion.

In 2013, he teamed with Newmark Grubb Knight Frank vice chairman Mark Weiss in helping orchestrate a land swap between the City of New York and a partnership of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and Hunter College at 525 E. 73rd Street that will lead to a 1.2-million-square-foot medical complex for the two institutions.

NGKF also represented S.K.I. Realty in the subsequent sale of the 452,000 s/f Cabrini Medical Center facility at Second Avenue and East 19th Street to The Chetrit Group.
Other recent deals include the sale of 17 East 12th Street on behalf of The Brauser Group for a record $1,034 per buildable square foot; a 28,500-square-foot lease with technology firm IDEO at 408 Broadway, a vacant building brought to full occupancy for Urban American Land after arranging the purchase of its defaulted mortgage and deed-in-lieu of foreclosure in 2011.

DiMare joined Newmark Grubb Knight Frank in 2003 in the Asset Management division. In 2005, he joined NGKF Capital Markets, specializing in the sale of investment properties and development advisory within the New York Metropolitan area.

Eastern Consolidated has expanded its team with the addition of Abram G. Bernstein as an associate director.

Bernstein will specialize in the sales and acquisition of commercial properties throughout the five boroughs, with an emphasis on multifamily assets in the Bronx and Northern Manhattan.

Bernstein is the most recent multi-lingual broker to join Eastern Consolidated. The firm’s professionals speak fifteen languages in addition to English.
Prior to joining Eastern Consolidated, Bernstein was a member of the Brand Solutions Team for Univision Communications Inc.

Prior to Univision, he was the founder and co-CEO of Omniretailers LLC, an online electronics wholesaler.

Bernstein recently graduated magna cum laude from Colgate University with a degree in English and Spanish, and is a member of The Real Estate Board of New York.

Settlement Housing Fund announced the appointment of Alexa Sewell as the organization’s new chief executive.

Sewell takes the reins from Carol Lamberg ,who has led the nonprofit affordable housing and community development organization since 1983.
Most recently Sewell was senior vice president for corporate strategy and external affairs at The Community Preservation Corporation.

Before that, she was Deputy Commissioner and Chief of Staff for the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development.

She also worked in Washington as staff to the Appropriations Committee, as a policy analyst for The National Alliance to End Homelessness, and as a Presidential Management Fellow with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Sewell has a Bachelor of Arts from Georgetown University and a Master of Public Policy from the University of Southern California.

Olshan Properties, formerly MPI – Mall Properties Inc., announced the promotion of two leading executives.

Alan Howe has been named vice president of hotels for Olshan Properties while Carrie Richards, formerly director of operations, now steps in for Howe as general manager.
During his career with Olshan Properties working for the division of the former MPI, which was known as Olshan Hotel Management, Inc., Alan Howe has served as both general manager of the Hilton Columbus at Easton and as the company’s regional director for the Columbus, Ohio area.

A graduate of Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration, Howe has served on the Board of Directors of the Greater Columbus Lodging Council, the Ohio Hotel and Lodging Association, The Ohio State University Hospitality Advisory Board, as well as the Greater Columbus Soap Box Derby Association and the International Soap Box Derby in Akron, Ohio.

Carrie Richards joined the Hilton Columbus at Easton in 2005 as a Rooms Division Director and has more than 10 years of hotel management experience.
Prior to joining Olshan Properties, she served as GM for Clarion Hotel in Dublin, OH and began her career in 1992 with Wyndham International.

Richards earned her Bachelors in Science from the University of Wisconsin, Stout in 1992.

Mark Gallucci, an experienced broker with strong knowledge of the Queens retail market, has joined the roster of brokers at Sabre Real Estate Group LLC.

Previously, Gallucci was director of retail leasing in the Forest Hills office of Massey Knakal Retail Leasing Services, focusing since 2012 on landlord representation spearheading the leasing efforts for over 100,000 square feet across Queens’s diverse neighborhoods.

A second-generation real estate executive, he previously was a senior leasing associate at NewMark Merrill Companies, a Los Angeles-based shopping center developer.
He negotiated leases with such major national tenants as Sketchers, Dollar Tree, and GNC. He began his career in retail real estate as an intern with the Baltimore-based shopping center developer The Cordish Co.

Gallucci is a 2006 graduate of Towson University in Maryland, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications.

DTZ announced the appointment of Paul Bedborough as president of Facilities Management, Americas.

With 14 years’ executive experience in the global facilities management and real estate services industry, Bedborough joins DTZ from his former position as vice president of Global Operations Americas at Global WorkPlace Solutions.

Bedborough’s experience includes developing and implementing global FM programs in the areas of safety, critical environments, continuous improvement and workflow.
Earlier in his career, he served as VP and General manager of Global WorkPlace Solutions USA facility management business. Bedborough also served as director of operations for the company in the UK.

He earned his MBA at the University of Leicester, UK.
