WHO’S NEWS: Commercial promotions and hires

Elie Hirschfeld has been appointed to the Israel Bonds National Campaign Advisory Council.

The organization typically sells over $USD One Billion in bonds annually in the United States to develop every aspect of Israel’s economy.

Development Corporation for Israel, established in 1951 and commonly known as Israel Bonds, is a FINRA-member broker dealer and underwriter for securities – Israel bonds – issued by the State of Israel in the United States.

For the past four years, annual U.S. sales have exceeded $1 billion. Prior to 2011, annual U.S. sales averaged approximately $600 million. Worldwide sales since the first Israel bonds were issued in 1951 have exceeded $40 billion.

For Israel, having the support of Israel Bonds – a reliable and independent financial pipeline – is an invaluable and strategic national resource. Investors value Israel’s impeccable record of having never defaulted on payment of principal or interest on Israel bonds.

Retail clients – individuals and Jewish organizations – comprise approximately 65 percent of worldwide sales. The remaining 35 percent encompasses institutional investors, including states, municipalities, financial institutions, corporations, foundations and others.

Hirschfeld’s expertise and success in the commercial and residential real estate and development markets in New York City, coupled with his passion for Jewish causes and the mission of Israel Bonds make him an ideal match to serve on the Israel Bonds National Campaign Council.


JLL has hired life sciences expert John Cahill as a senior vice president with its New York brokerage operations.
He will focus on tenant representation and agency leasing services for life sciences and biotechnology clients throughout the New York metropolitan area.

Cahill has more than 12 years of experience in commercial real estate, primarily focusing on life sciences and biotechnology transactions in the New York metropolitan area.

Prior to joining JLL, Cahill was a principal with Cresa, where he served as senior advisor and head of the life sciences practice.

Earlier, Cahill served Colliers and Cushman & Wakefield, first as a member of a global life sciences practice group and, most recently, as a partner with a second firm’s life sciences and data centers solutions practice groups.
Prior to joining the real estate industry, Cahill worked in pharmaceutical sales and marketing with Johnson & Johnson and Alcon Laboratories.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in operations management from Syracuse University’s Whitman School of Management. He is a member of NewYorkBIO, the New Jersey Technology Council and BioNJ.


Greystone announced that Shana Daby has joined as a Managing Director and Deputy Chief Underwriter within the FHA lending team.

Daby brings 14 years of real estate finance industry experience to Greystone and will focus on HUD affordable housing transactions, particularly in the Western U.S.

Prior to joining Greystone, Daby was a Managing Director and Deputy Chief Underwriter at Barings Multifamily Capital LLC.
She also held previous FHA underwriting roles at ACRE Capital LLC and CWCapital (acquired by Walker & Dunlop). Additionally, she spent six years underwriting tax credit equity investments at PNC Bank.

Daby earned a Master’s degree in City and Regional Planning from Cornell University and undergraduate degrees in Finance and Spanish from the University of St. Thomas.


Greenberg Traurig, LLP has grown its Global Real Estate Practice with the addition of Garin T. Muranaka as shareholder. Muranaka joins the firm from Ropes & Gray, LLP.

Muranaka represents private equity companies, hedge funds, asset managers, university endowments and other institutional investors in connection with complex real estate transactions.

His work includes joint ventures, co-investments, preferred equity investments, construction, permanent and mezzanine financing, and acquisitions and dispositions.

Muranaka advises investors and operators in joint venture and limited partnership transactions to invest in domestic and foreign assets across the real estate spectrum. He regularly represents investors in the acquisition and disposition of pools of performing and non-performing residential loans.

Muranaka has multinational experience, having represented clients in transactions in Asia, Europe, and throughout the United States.

Muranaka received his J.D. from Harvard Law School, and his B.A., summa cum laude, from the University of Arizona, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa.

Hunt Mortgage Group announced that Misty Read has joined the firm as Director.

She will be responsible for originating small balance and conventional agency business as well as placing Hunt Mortgage Group’s proprietary products in the Midwest.

She will operate out of the firm’s New York office and will report to Josh Messier, Managing Director at Hunt Mortgage Group.

Read comes to Hunt Mortgage Group from EverBank Commercial Real Estate – Midwest Region where she was a Regional Sales Director and Vice President.

While at EverBank, she was responsible for covering mortgage brokers/bankers in the Midwest states, originating small and large balance permanent loans and was a National Top Producer exceeding sales goals year over year.

Prior to EverBank, Read was a National Sales Manager and Senior Vice President at Pipeline Medical in Sparta, New Jersey, and before that was Regional Sales Director, Vice President at Indymac Commercial Lending Corp.

She is a member of the Mortgage Bankers Association.


Minority Woman-Owned design and construction management firm McKissack announced the appointment of Rance MacFarland as President, a new position to its corporate team headquartered in New York City.

MacFarland will report to CEO Cheryl McKissack Daniel and will be responsible for overall management of the firm and for continuing to expand McKissack in the New York City and Philadelphia markets.

With over 30 years of experience, MacFarland is an established commercial and residential construction professional.
Most recently, MacFarland was CEO & Board Member of Pizzarotti-IBC, LLC, an Italian construction firm. He facilitated their initial entrée into the New York market, which resulted in the company gaining almost $1 billion of work under contract in 20 months.

Previously, as CEO of IBC Groups, LLC, MacFarland launched and expanded the start-up company from $0 to $15 million in two years, then negotiated the merger with the Pizzarotti Group.

MacFarland was also President & CEO of Construction Management Services (CMS).

MacFarland received a BS in Business Administration from Regent University and is a Certified Construction Manager (CCM), a certified LEED AP BD+C professional, and a certified Project Management Professional (PMP).

He sits on the board of the New York Building Congress Foundation and the Municipal Art Society Planning Board.


Racanelli Construction Company announced the appointment of Kristy S. Seemungal as Administrative Assistant.
She brings over a decade of diverse business experience and skills in various office and business software programs.
Directly prior to joining Racanelli Construction, Seemungal served as a Licensing & Forecasting Specialist with Rubie’s Costume Company Inc.

Additionally, she served at Rubies as a Licensing Coordinator and Royalty Analyst.

Seemungal’s career also included roles as a Finance & Royalties Specialist with The Licensing Company North American, Inc. and as a Billing Coordinator with VIP Health Care Services.

Seemungal holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Hunter College-City University of New York and an Applied Associate of Science degree from Queensborough Community College-City University of New York.


Douglaston Development announced that Allen Dzbanek has joined the firm as Senior Vice President of Design and Construction.

A construction professional with more than 35 years of experience, Dzbanek joins Douglaston after serving as the SVP of Design and Construction with Rockrose Development Corp since 2009.

Before Rockrose, Dzbanek held positions as Executive Vice President of Park Tower Group, where he orchestrated one of the first comprehensive Project Labor Agreements with the Building Construction Trade Council of Great New York; Senior Director at Hudson Waterfront Associates, where he worked with the Department of Parks and Recreation in developing Riverside Park South; Senior Director of Design and Construction with Tishman Speyer Properties.

Dzbanek has held notable positions with various architectural firms in the 1980s upon receiving his Bachelors of Science in Architecture at the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee.

He holds a Masters of Architecture degree from Columbia and a MBA degree with concentration in Finance from New York University.
