Work is underway at the corner of 26th Street and Broadway, as construction sheds mark the arrival of three additions to the NoMad landscape.
Construction on St. James building at 1133 Broadway, marks the arrival of Inday, Rizzoli Bookstore and La Pecora Bianca
Rizzoli is considered one of the world’s most respected book publishers, and for nearly 50 years, its New York bookstore has been considered among the finest independent bookstores in the country.
After 27 years on 57th Street, the Rizzoli Bookshop is moving to 1133 Broadway, and is expected to have a soft opening in May.
Inday, a new casual Indian restaurant from owner and restaurateur Basu Ratnam, will open in summer 2015 on 26th Street. Phil Suarez, famous for Jean-George and Spice Market, among many other New York restaurants, is the restaurant’s primary investor, and Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten is acting as a consultant. Following trends set by chains such as Shake Shack and Chipotle, Inday will serve affordable, healthy, delicious Indian fast-casual food options.
La Pecora Bianca, is a fast-casual restaurant that owners promise will be a welcoming meeting place for NoMad’s local businesspeople and friends at all times of the day. The opening is also planned for summer 2015
President and CEO of Kew Management Corporation, Leslie Spira Lopez, told Real Estate Weekly, “We are delighted to be able to bring La Pecora Bianca’s exciting restaurant to our corner retail space. We see it as a perfect compliment to Inday and Rizzoli’s bookstore, and we believe the superior quality of the three planned interiors will be worthy of the historic St. James.”
While work has been going on for weeks inside of the stores, the construction shed marks a new phase of the projects.
The entire ground floor of 1133 Broadway will receive a new façade. The glass windows and transoms will be raised to the height of 15.6 ft, reflecting the historic heights and specifications of Bruce Price’s original 1896 design.
By fall, NoMad can expect a corner with three new places in which to shop and eat.
