Brookfield Properties announced two new leases for its Bleecker Street storefronts: global design company Arc’teryx, which specializes in high-performance apparel, outerwear, and equipment, has opened a new store at 367 Bleecker St, and Tarin Thomas, the digitally-native jewelry brand, will open its first brick-and-mortar shop at 92 Perry St.
In 2018, Brookfield acquired seven historic Bleecker Street storefronts from New York REIT for $31.5 million and activated them with arts and cultural programming to enliven the block, attracting innovative digital and growing brands looking to experiment with physical retail presences.
Arc’teryx and Tarin Thomas will join Margaux, Slightly Alabama, and Lingua Franca in Brookfield’s Bleecker storefronts.
“Arc’teryx and Tarin Thomas are exciting, growing brands that will contribute to the ongoing revitalization of this unique retail corridor in a major way,” said Jason Maurer, Senior Vice President, Retail Leasing, Brookfield Properties. “That two such exceptional, of-the-moment retailers have chosen to open new boutiques in New York City today is a testament to the attractiveness of Bleecker Street, the latest example of the success of Brookfield’s LOVE, BLEECKER initiative, and, perhaps most significantly, the value and importance of well-positioned retail locations to the next generation of retail brands.”
Arc’teryx is a global design and manufacturing company based at the foot of the Coast Mountain Range in North Vancouver, B.C that specializes in technical high performance apparel and equipment. Bleecker Street will be home to Arc’teryx’s first Icon store in New York, offering the brand’s most celebrated designs in a space inspired by wood-framed backcountry huts. In addition to the carefully curated product selection, the Icon store also offers a variety of flexible direct-to-consumer services – such as Virtual Advisor, Virtual Waitlist, Endless Aisle, Same-Day Courier, Curbside Pick-Up, and Click & Collect – allowing guests to shop for and receive their items within 24-48 hours.
Tarin Thomas will open its first retail destination at 92 Perry Street. A member of Brookfield’s retail leasing team reached out to Tarin Thomas founder Kylie Nakao after reading about her successful summer pop-up shop and thought the brand’s modern jewelry, which explores the contrast between masculine and feminine, delicate and bold, modern and traditional, would be a perfect fit on Bleecker. Nakao’s jewelry melds artful, contemporary design with luxury materials to create pieces at once both elegant and fun. All Tarin Thomas jewelry is handcrafted in New York City.
“I feel incredibly fortunate that Brookfield Properties presented this amazing opportunity to me to open my first store. The Tarin Thomas brand has existed online for over 7 years and having a physical location has been paramount for me to connect with my old and new clients and create an in-store lifestyle experience. It has been exhilarating as a small business owner and jewelry designer to open a brick and mortar during these unprecedented times and I’m so grateful to be in my favorite neighborhood with such a strong community,” said Kylie Tarin Nakao, Founder & Owner, Tarin Thomas.
Brookfield Properties was represented in-house for both deals. Arc’teryx was represented by Maven Retail Group.
