May 9: John lee, deputy director for green buildings and energy efficiency will keynote a morning seminar and panel discussion on the city’s newest legislative policies for the built environment. Chris Cayten of Greencode Solutions will moderate a discussion with Diana Sweeney of the New York Energy Consumers Council and Philip Skalaski, vice president of engineering and energy services for the Durst Organization. The New York City Council has passed legislation, Introduction Number 1253-C, that requires buildings to meet the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 80% by 2050. This bill, which was passed on April 18, is going to have a dramatic impact on buildings in New York City. Speakers will discuss the nuts and bolts of what buildings will have to do to comply with the bill, as well as infrastructure issues related to electricity production and transmission needed to help buildings meet the bill’s requirements.
