WHO’S NEWS: Halstead welcomes new prez, NKF scoops up new employees

ATCO Brokerage Services has appointed industry veteran William W. Carr as Managing Director.
Carr, a seasoned professional with more than 20 years of experience in landlord and tenant representation, will serve as the exclusive leasing agent for two Buildings in ATCO’s Midtown South office portfolio, which comprises 373/381 Park Avenue South. In addition, he will provide outside tenant representation services.

Prior to joining ATCO, Carr served as an Associate Real Estate Broker at Douglas Elliman Commercial, where he focused on all aspects of landlord and tenant representation, as well as the integration of Williamson, Picket, Gross, Inc. into the firm’s commercial division.

Before that, he negotiated over 500,000 s/f of new leases and renewals throughout his 18-year tenure with Williamson, Picket, Gross, Inc.

Carr is a graduate of Villanova University with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science in Real Estate.


NAI James E. Hanson announced that Susan Fox has joined its Hackensack, N.J. office as a Sales Associate.

Fox will work exclusively with Steve Pastor, Vice President, Global Supply Chain & Ports/Rails Logistics Practice, on local, regional and national development projects throughout the United States. With over 20 years of commercial real estate experience, Fox previously served as an investment sales advisor at Marcus & Millichap. Prior to that, she was a senior real estate attorney with Fox & Fox, LLP.

In addition to her current role at NAI Hanson, Fox also serves as Chief Executive Officer of Big Brain Investment Ventures, an investment firm focused on real estate development opportunities.

Fox holds a J.D. from Seton Hall University School of Law and a B.A. in Government and Law from Lafayette College. Susan is a resident of Pine Brook, N.J.


The Upper Manhattan Empowerment Zone’s (UMEZ) Board of Directors announced the appointment of Blair M. Duncan as the organization’s President and Chief Executive Officer.

Duncan currently serves as UMEZ’s Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer under the leadership of Kenneth J. Knuckles who is stepping down to begin his retirement after 15 years of leadership.

Duncan began his tenure with UMEZ in 2003 as the organization’s General Counsel. In the years since, he has assumed increasing levels of responsibility and led UMEZ’s financing to redevelop the Victoria Theater in Harlem and the George Washington Bridge Bus Terminal Redevelopment.

Prior to joining UMEZ, he served as Vice President and Senior Counsel in the Corporate Law Department of Merrill Lynch.

He has served on the boards of Harlem YMCA, the Helene Fuld College of Nursing, and Lawyers Alliance for New York, and he continues to serve as a member of the Executive Committee of the Wharton Club of New York.


CBRE announced the hiring of three investment sales professionals to its Investment Properties Group.
Steve Mariani, Manveer “Manny” Sanghera and Trevor Fiebel work with Nat Gambuzza, a senior vice president who leads New Jersey’s CBRE Investment Properties Group.

Steve Mariani joined the firm as vice president representing investors and sellers of commercial investment properties throughout the Tri-State region, with a focus on New Jersey.

A veteran of the real estate industry, Mariani was previously with Marcus & Millichap and, before that, operated Jersey Appraisal Group.

A graduate of Penn State University, Manny Sanghera joined as an associate and focuses on the sale of multifamily and mixed-use investment properties in Hudson County and Newark, New Jersey. He was also with Marcus & Millichap previously.

His studies allow him to assist in tax and investment strategies that help his clients make the best decisions for their real estate investments.

Trevor Fiebel is another Marucs & Millichap alumni who specializes in the sale of multifamily and mixed-use properties in Union and Middlesex Counties, while also maintaining developer relationships in Newark, New Jersey.


CBRE Group, Inc. announced that Dara Bazzano has been appointed the company’s Chief Accounting Officer.

She will lead CBRE’s Finance operations globally and have responsibility for all internal and external financial reporting.

Bazzano joined in April 2018. She had previously served as Global Controller and Chief Accounting Officer at The Gap, Inc., where she led all aspects of the company’s accounting, shared services and control functions.

Earlier, she was a Partner at PwC and at KPMG where she held numerous roles over 13 years, including serving as a technical leader in the national office of KPMG.

Bazzano earned a BS with an accounting concentration from California State University, Sacramento. She is accredited by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.


Newmark Knight Frank (NKF) announced that they have added senior leadership to lead a new Hospitality, Gaming and Leisure practice, within the company’s Valuation and Advisory (V&A) practice.

The new leadership includes David S. Gray, MAI, MRICS, executive vice president, Edy Gross executive vice president, and Ryan Maker, analyst.

Gray and Maker will both be based in the Boca Raton office, while Gross will be located in the Miami office.

Gray and Gross will be responsible for Hospitality, Gaming & Leisure assignments in the Southeastern US and the Caribbean, with support from Maker.

This group will focus exclusively on providing valuation and consulting services for a broad range of hotels, casinos and leisure properties.

The appointment of senior leadership follows a series of recent top-level hires that have expanded NKF’s growing Valuation & Advisory practice. Hospitality, Gaming and Leisure is part of NKF’s V&A Practice and is headed by Bryan Younge, NKF executive vice president, V&A.


Newmark Knight Frank (NKF) announced the addition of a new Tri-State Valuation & Advisory (V&A) team, which includes industry veterans Matt Victor, Joe Ferranti and Jeff Mayer.

Senior Managing Director Matt Victor will lead the tri-state MultiHousing team and will work together with Senior Managing Directors Ray Cirz and Matt Krauser to focus on the practice’s suburban tri-state markets.

Jeff Mayer will lead the Northeast Hospitality team and Joe Ferranti will focus on commercial valuations in NYC. Both are based out of New York City.

This expansion follows the build-out of teams covering the office/retail and residential/ multifamily segments led by industry veterans Doug Larson and Wendy Hwang. The new team also features one of the most successful and longest-running litigation support and arbitration practices, led by prominent appraiser Robert Von Ancken.


Newmark Knight Frank (NKF) announced that four industry veterans Adam Etra, Mark Schoenholtz, Miles Spencer, and Lawrence Wolfe have joined NKF to lead NKF Lodging Capital Markets as Vice Chairman and Co-Heads.

Each brings with them a diverse range of industry experience in all types of lodging and leisure transactions, including property and portfolio sales, joint venture transactions, and debt placement.

Each broker joins NKF from Eastdil Secured where they helped oversee the industry leading practice and had unprecedented success, completing over $250 billion of lodging transactions.

Etra, Schoenholtz, Spencer and Wolfe, bring to the firm nearly 100 years of combined experience and expertise with a broad range of clients, including REITs, private equity firms, hedge funds, high net worth investors and sovereign wealth funds.

In addition to these industry veterans, the following individuals will have also joined NKF Lodging Capital Markets: Michele Mahl, Managing Director, Nicholas Pappas, Director, and Jessica Shevins, Associate Director.

The group has handled countless noteworthy transactions nationwide, including some of the largest hotel sales nationwide. Recent transactions include the Waldorf Astoria New York, W Lexington New York, Ritz Carlton and JW Marriott Grande Lakes Resort in Orlando, Four Seasons Miami, Boston Park Plaza, Kiawah Resort, Four Seasons Austin, Hilton Washington D.C., W Atlanta Downtown and numerous select service portfolio transactions.


Berkadia announced the addition of Managing Director Robert Wrzosek to the Affordable Housing team.

Wrzosek will be based out of the firm’s New York office, reporting to Senior Vice President and Head of Affordable Housing Steve Ervin.

Wrzosek joins Berkadia from Berkeley Point Capital, where he was charged with expanding its affordable housing, seniors, healthcare and FHA lending platforms.

During his tenure, Berkeley Point went from unranked to a top 5 Fannie Mae affordable lender in 2016 and a top 20 FHA lender, as well as being issued a dedicated affordable housing lender license from Freddie Mac.

Prior to Berkeley Point Capital, Wrzosek served as President of Hunt Mortgage Group and Hunt Financial Services.

Wrzosek spent nearly six years at Credit Suisse, where he was responsible for the establishment of the Walker & Dunlop joint venture by combining Credit Suisse’s GSE lending subsidiary, Column Guaranteed, and what was then known as Greenpark Financial. Wrzosek was a Walker & Dunlop Board Member through 2010 and assisted with its IPO.

During his Credit Suisse tenure, he was also responsible for managing its private label tax exempt affordable housing securitization platform, as well as being responsible for the day-to-day operations of its LIHTC syndication platform from 2008-2010.

He was a partner with the law firm of Eichner & Norris PLLC, Washington D.C.

Wrzosek is a graduate of Ithaca College with degrees in Finance and Philosophy, obtained his JD from Duke University and received his Masters of Laws in Taxation from Georgetown University Law Center.


Halstead announced that Leslie Bogen Winkler, longtime senior Executive Vice President has been appointed President of Halstead Management Company.

Winkler brings more than 40 years of management experience during which she has managed rentals, luxury condominiums and cooperatives.

She most recently served as Executive Vice President of Halstead Management Compan. Previously, she served as head of Penmark Realty Management which merged into Halstead Management eight years ago, and as President of Bellmarc Management Company.

Winkler holds a BS, MA and MBA from New York University.
