The Urban Land Institute announced an awards committee and jury for its annual Awards for Excellence in Development.
John Gunther-Mohr, senior vice president at Santander Bank, and Greta Guggenheim, CEO and partner at TPG Real Estate Finance Trust, will co-chair this year’s competition and gala.
“The Awards for Excellence highlight the best projects in real estate across New York and honor innovators in the field that strive to create vibrant communities through responsible land use,” said Marty Burger, Chairman of ULI New York.
“We are proud to have real estate industry experts John Gunther-Mohr and Greta Guggenheim leading a new class of Awards Committee members tasked with recognizing outstanding projects in real estate development committed to responsible and sustainable building.”
The Awards for Excellence in Development recognize New York’s real estate leaders who demonstrate the strongest commitment to planning, design, sustainability and resilience, market success and community impact. Award categories include housing, office, mixed-use, institutional, civic space, repositioning or redevelopment, and hotel and retail. The Awards will now recognize both market rate and affordable housing developments separately.
The 2017 Awards for Excellence winners included The Kathleen Grimm School for Leadership and Sustainability at Sandy Ground, The Hills on Governor’s Island, 51 Astor Place, Towers280 at Midtown, The Delaware North Building, and the Beekman Hotel and Residences.
ULI New York will begin accepting submissions on September 12.
“The real estate community in New York has set the global standard for real estate excellence; ULI New York provides a platform to recognize and honor real estate leaders who understand the future of our industry,” said Gunther-Mohr.
“I am excited to work collaboratively with all committee members in highlighting projects that are raising the bar in their field while bringing sustainability and innovation to the state.”
“Responsible land use and development allows communities to thrive and I anticipate contenders for the Third Annual Awards for Excellence in Development will showcase extraordinary projects from across New York state,” said Guggenheim.
“These Awards honor transformative projects that create a long-lasting positive impact in the community and elevate the standards in the development industry.”
The Awards Committee and Awards Jury are comprised of ULI New York members across the spectrum of New York real estate, including developers, architects, urban planners, construction managers, lenders, and investors. The Awards Committee will manage the awards selection process, nominate the awards finalists and oversee the awards gala.
After finalists are announced, the Awards Jury will select winners by analyzing each finalist’s project to determine how well it exemplifies the principles of ULI and the Awards criteria. Jury members will conduct site tours of all finalists’ projects.
