Quadrum Global is looking to build a shorter hotel tower at 351 West 38th Street in the Garment District.
Two years ago, the company announced that it wants to build a 26-story, 500-key hotel at the site. The firm’s plans have changed since. According to a permit application filed today with the DOB, Quadrum is now looking to build a 20-story building with 353 rooms.
The planned 122,127 s/f structure will contain a lobby restaurant with outdoor table service and a rooftop bar. If approved as proposed, the building will be 201 feet tall.
In 2014, Quadrum partnered with hotelier Sam Chang to buy an office building at 351-353 West 38th Street, according to a previous report from the Real Deal. Both firms reportedly paid $56 million for their portion of the property. The block-through site, which extends from West 38th and West 39th Street between Eighth and Ninth Avenue, was divided into three lots, according to a YIMBY report. The two other parcels will become McSam Hotels.
Marvel Architects will design the building. According to a previous announcement from Quadrum, the firm is looking to create “a vibrant building that balances a pedestrian-inviting street screen and a tall building behind.” Quadrum plans to start construction on the site later this year. The property has been named West 38th Street Hotel.
Quadrum Global, a London-based real estate investment firm, has two other New York City hotels in its portfolio, namely the Arlo NoMad at 11 East 31st Street and Arlo SoHo at 231 Hudson Street.
