Staying true to its pledge to lease Coney Island space to local businesses in the wake of the damage inflicted by Hurricane Sandy, Thor Equities today announced it had secured placements for Brooklyn-based retailers in the heart of the People’s Playground.
The Nets Shop by Adidas, an exclusive Brooklyn Nets gear retailer, will be opening at Thor’s 3015 Stillwell Avenue property, following an official “towel-cutting” ceremony that will take place on Thursday, May 23.
Wampum, a surf-and-skate shop, will be opening its third location at the 1232 Surf Avenue property. Coney Island Convenience, a store featuring local tee shirts, hats and other tchotchkes will all also take space at 1232 Surf. Brooklyn Rock, will be relocating to the Stillwell Avenue location as well, and bringing handmade t-shirts to the neighborhood.
As previously announced, the specialty candy store, IT’SUGAR, will also take space at 1232 Surf.

“Every season, Coney Island draws more than 13 million visitors from all over the world,” said Joseph Sitt, CEO of Thor Equities. “In the wake of Hurricane Sandy, we wanted to both introduce new brands that appealed to both the neighborhood and visiting clientele, and also bring back long-time retailers that are mainstays within the neighborhood.”
The property at 1232 Surf Avenue boasts a total of 15,000 square feet and has 75 feet of frontage on Surf Avenue, 75 feet on Bowery and 200 feet on Stillwell Avenue. Both the Wampum and Coney Island Convenience stores located at 1232 Surf Avenue will be a total of 2,500 square feet each. IT’SUGAR will take up 2,000 square feet and the Brooklyn Rock store will consist of 1,500 square feet in the 3015 Stillwell Avenue location.
Through the vendor, Van Wagner, Thor Equities will also be placing billboards resembling a rollercoaster scheme on top of its 1232 Surf Avenue property.
