RKF has arranged an 8,805 s/f t lease for apparel retailer The Men’s Wearhouse at 1219 Third Ave.
Scheduled to open in January of 2013, Men’s Wearhouse will join neighboring tenants which include Grace’s Market, Gracious Home, Anthropologie and Super Runners Shop. This will become the sixth Men’s Wearhouse location in Manhattan and its first storefront on the Upper East Side.
The retail space at 1219 Third Avenue is located on the ground floor of 200 East 71st street, which is a 266,000-square-foot luxury residential building that rises above Third Avenue’s bustling retail corridor.
RKF Executive Vice President Gary Alterman represented both Men’s Wearhouse and the landlord, Fraydun Realty Co., on the long-term lease. The financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

“We are glad to have been able to help bring Men’s Wearhouse and Fraydun Realty together on this transaction,” said Alterman. “This is an ideal location on a high-traffic block with long time high quality neighborhood co-tenants.”
As one of Manhattan’s most popular shopping corridors, Third Avenue in the 60’s and 70’s is heavily trafficked by pedestrians en route to or from the Lexington Avenue subway station and the area’s many hospitals. This section of Third Avenue also is undergoing a strong retail revival as more national tenants build a presence here. Some recent arrivals to Third Ave include David’s Tea, L’Occitane, Chipotle, UnLeashed by Petco, Pier 1 Imports, Sur La Table, Journelle, Blue Mercury, and Free People.
Founded in 1973, Men’s Wearhouse is one of North America’s largest specialty retailers of men’s apparel. Men’s Wearhouse stores carry a full selection of designer, brand name and private label suits, sport coats, furnishings and accessories.
