The Rockefeller Center Christmas tree lit up during a star-studded celebration last week.
The 79 ft. tall Norway Spruce is 46 ft. wide and weighs 12 tons. It is covered with more than more than 50,000 multi-colored LED lights on approximately five miles of wire and topped with a three-dimensional Swarovski star designed by architect Daniel Libeskind.
Mayor Bill de Blasio and Tishman Speyer President Rob Speyer turned on the lights on the tree, which will remain in the plaza until January 16 when it will be turned into lumber to help a family build a Habitat for Humanity home.
