IKEA opens 975,000 s/f fulfillment center at Matrix logistics park

Swedish home furnishing giant IKEA has opened its New York customer fulfillment center.
The 975,000 s/f location is less than 20 miles from downtown Manhattan within the Matrix Global Logistics Park.

Pam Andrews, IKEA Distribution Operations Manager USA, said, “The new facility is an important addition to our distribution network allowing us to meet delivery needs of our New York-area customers with greater agility and speed.”

Globally, IKEA is working to be more accessible and convenient for customers. The Staten Island center will support delivery to many customers in New York City whether they are shopping in store, at the IKEA Planning Studio or online. The new fulfillment center has created nearly 100 new jobs and will eventually have 500 workers when at full capacity. The facility also has a goal to complete 100 percent of shipments on electric vehicles by 2020.

Developed by New jersey-based Matrix Development Group, the logistics park is also home to an 855,000 s/f Amazon fulfillment expected to ultimately employ 2,250 people. While two of the four large warehouses that will make up Matrix Global Logistics Park Staten Island are already spoken, two more warehouses that are being built at the master planned site.Matrix is negotiating with other potential tenants to fill the remaining two warehouses
