DONE DEALS: Thinking out of the box

MORGAN TURKEWITZ

Citi Habitats agent Morgan Turkewitz had to get creative when helping recent clients find their dream home.
The married couple had grown out of their alcove studio in Gramercy and decided it was time to buy their “forever’ home,” said Turkewitz.

“We decided to look for a two bedroom in Chelsea or Gramercy that was pet friendly and would accommodate their two cats. They also love to bike, so a building with storage space was also high on their wish list.”

The search turned up nothing that met their requirements – but Turkewitz did find two adjacent studio apartments at 201 West 21st Street.

Her clients fell in love with the building’s prime location and roof garden, as well as the fact the building offered bicycle storage and was close to Trader Joe’s market.
They decided that it was worth the time and expense to combine the two units to create one large two bedroom home. The listing price for unit 8D was $382,000, and unit 8E was on the market for $363,000. In the end, Turkewitz’s buyers paid $400,000 and $360,000 respectively. Grant Skjelstad of NestSeekers represented the seller.

“We got into a bidding war and my clients had to pay over the asking price, but they felt it was definitely worth it. They have hired an architect, and are now in the process of designing their dream home,” said Turkewitz .
