Chopped Chef Sibley joins Gotham West Market cast

Gotham Organization announced that La Palapa, a Mexican restaurant with locations in the East Village and Midtown Manhattan’s Urbanspace Vanderbilt food hall, will be opening its third location at Hell’s Kitchen’s Gotham West Market food hall this Summer.

Following the recent lease signings of dining concepts such as dell’anima, Corner Bistro and Broken Coconut, Gotham West Market is now fully occupied, providing visitors with eight different culinary concepts.

Owned by Barbara Sibley, a chef born and raised in Mexico City, La Palapa’s menu is inspired by meals Sibley enjoyed with family during her childhood, along with her own research on indigenous cuisines.

Sibley has demonstrated her culinary expertise in Mexican cooking during several media appearances including on Queer Eye for the Straight Guy and Chopped.

Founded in 2013, Gotham West Market is a 10,000 s/f food hall located at the corner of 44th Street and 11th Avenue.

The dining facility contains some of New York City’s top food vendors including Seamore’s, a local, sustainable seafood restaurant chain, Ample Hills, Zagat’s #1 rated ice cream shop in New York City, and Ivan Ramen Slurp Shop from Ivan Orkin who was featured in Netflix’s “Chef’s Table.”

Additional vendors include Corner Slice, Jianbing Company and recently added dell’anima, another New York City dining staple that debuted in the West Village.

“La Palapa continues Gotham West Market’s tradition of welcoming exceptional and unique vendors that have been selectively assembled to provide New Yorkers with a bespoke, yet impactful, dining experience,” said Phil Lavoie, COO of Gotham Organization.

“Chef Barbara Sibley brings yet another international flavor to the market, ensuring that visitors have a wide array of cuisines to choose from, no matter their palate.”
