RealtyTrac has just come out with Home Disclosure, a new property due diligence website that helps prospective buyers “uncover the good, bad and ugly about a home and the neighborhood it’s in.” The service focuses on proximity to felons, which it says affects home values and foreclosure rates. In its first Criminal Offender Risk Index, the website identified areas with the highest concentration of felons. The data on the map is based on the number of registered criminal offenders (such as child predators, sex offenders, kidnappers and garden-variety violent criminals) as a percentage of the population in about 10,000 zip codes across the country.
