WHO’S NEWS: Lori Shabtai joins TOWN Commercial, Weiden takes top spot at HGAR

TOWN Residential announced that Lori Shabtai has joined TOWN Commercial and will be based in the firm’s Fifth Avenue Office located at 730 Fifth Avenue alongside Juliet Clapp, Dorothy Sexton, Brennan Zahler and Jonathan Butwin.

A ten year industry veteran, prior to joining TOWN, Shabtai served as an executive vice president with Winick Realty Group.

Her transactions are highlighted with the leasing of the Puck Building’s 39,000 s/f space to outdoor apparel giant R.E.I.; leasing of more than 60,000 s/f of retail space at the Empire Hotel and 25,000 s/f retail space at Trump SoHo Hotel.

Shabtai exclusively represents YogaWorks and many other prestigious brands.

She received the Real Estate Board of New York’s “Most Significant Deal of the Year” award and was ranked among New York City’s Top Retail Brokers by CoStar Group.

Before embarking on her real estate career, Shabtai enjoyed success in the positioning, marketing and sales of luxury products ranging from jewelry to fashion.

These experiences coupled with the insights gained while growing up as the daughter of Long Island’s Foodtown supermarket chain owner, have provided her with a deep understanding of the unique needs of a retailer and the importance of maximizing each square foot.

The Hudson Gateway Association of Realtors announced the appointment of Phil Weiden of Brooklyn as its new Government Affairs Director.

Weiden will help to develop HGAR’s policies and objectives involving local, state, and federal government affairs, as well as analyze proposed legislative actions and their potential impact on the Association.

In addition, he will be monitoring legislative and regulatory activities, recommending Association positions and coordinating initiatives for the Realtors’ Political Action Committee (RPAC).

Prior to joining HGAR, Weiden worked with the Long Island Board of Realtors (LIBOR) for seven years as its Legislative Liaison.

At LIBOR, he lobbied the local law makers in Nassau, Suffolk and Queens for fair housing legislation that sought to crack down on Co-op apartment discrimination.

Before joining LIBOR, Weiden worked with Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi in his Constituent Affairs Office.

He also worked with Congressman Gary Ackerman in both Washington D.C. and in the District Office in Bayside Queens.

In 2008, he served as Assembly Member Charles Lavine’s Campaign Coordinator.

Neerja Rana is the newest licensed salesperson to join Homes By Mara Realty.

Rana, who comes to Homes By Mara after working as a licensed real estate salesperson with First Flag Realty, is utilizing her Indian heritage and fluency in Hindi to support home buyers and sellers within Long Island’s growing Indian community.

Rana, who came to the United States in 2001 after growing up in India, holds a Master’s Degree in English Literature from Rohilkhand University In Bareilly, India and a Diploma in Fashion Designing from IIFT New Delhi, India.

Before getting her real estate salesperson license in 2010, she worked as a sales associate at Children’s Place.

In addition to working with Homes By Mara, Rana is currently an assistant teacher with Shalom Day Care Center in Plainview, NY.
