WHO’S NEWS: Galen in as EVP at Related, Con Edison tabs Kimball

Related Companies announced that Timur Galen will join the firm as Executive Vice President.
He will be a part of the senior executive team for the development of Hudson Yards, primarily responsible for leading and overseeing over seven million square feet of commercial office development at 10, 30, 50 and 55 Hudson Yards.
Galen formally served as global co-head of Corporate Services and Real Estate (CSRE) at Goldman Sachs where he led the development of 200 West Street, the firm’s global headquarters, and the transformative redevelopment of the broader New York/New Jersey campus, including 30 Hudson Street and the Conrad New York hotel and retail complex.
He also oversaw the evolution of the balance of Goldman’s global campus, including significant projects in Beijing, Hong Kong, Singapore, Tokyo, Paris, Moscow, Chicago, São Paulo, Salt Lake City and major new developments in London and Bengaluru.
Prior to joining Goldman Sachs, Galen worked as an executive with The Walt Disney Company, Reichmann International, BPT Properties and Hines.
While at The Walt Disney Company, he worked alongside Ken Wong, COO of Related Companies and has been a friend, and sometimes collaborator, with L. Jay Cross, President of Related Hudson Yards, since his days at Hines.
An architect, he completed his professional apprenticeship with Pritzker Prize winners Robert Venturi and Fumihiko Maki.
He earned a BA in Physics from Haverford College in 1978, a Master of Architecture and Master of Civil and Urban Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania in 1984 and was a Henry Luce Foundation Research Fellow at Tokyo University in 1982 and 1983.

Con Edison announced the appointment of Kyle Kimball, former president of the New York City Economic Development Corporation (EDC), as its vice president of Government Relations. Kimball will join the company in August.
Kimball first joined EDC in 2008, was appointed president by then Mayor Michael Bloomberg in 2013, and later reappointed by Mayor Bill de Blasio.


During his tenure, he oversaw major capital projects ranging from the upgrading of city infrastructure to the building of new housing.
Prior to EDC, Kimball was a vice president at Goldman Sachs and at J.P. Morgan Chase & Co.
He graduated from Harvard University where he majored in government and earned his master’s degree at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government.

Cushman & Wakefield announced that Sean Black, a former Managing Director at JLL, has joined Cushman & Wakefield as an Executive Director. Black is located in the firm’s world headquarters office in Midtown Manhattan.
Black has over 15 years of experience in office leasing, representing a mix of tenants in the media, technology and publishing sectors.
Some of his notable transactions include representing WEWORK in a total of 400,000 s/f in multiple locations in New York City and D.C., and Cowork|rs in a total of 90,000 s/f in three New York City locations.
Black attended the University of Toronto, Ontario and the University of Western Ontario, where he received his bachelor’s degree in psychology.
He is a competitive athlete who has participated in numerous world tournaments including the Olympic Games World Championships and Pan American Games, where he won a bronze medal in boxing.

Equity Office has appointed Scott Silverstein leasing manager in New York City.
Silverstein will support Zachary Freeman, vice president of leasing, with its 2.7-million-square-foot portfolio here.
The firm’s Manhattan holdings include signature, Class A properties such as 229 West 43rd Street, 1140 Avenue of the Americas, 1740 Broadwayand 5 Bryant Park, as well as its latest acquisitions, 114 West 41st Street and Park Avenue Tower.


Silverstein has 10 years of experience in the industry, mostly specializing in landlord representation.
He joins from Cushman & Wakefield, where he represented top institutional and private owners in the city, including RXR Realty, SL Green Realty Corp., and Spear Street Capital.
Silverstein received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Delaware, and holds a Master’s degree (M.S.) in Real Estate Finance and Investment from New York University.

Avison Young announced that Alison Luisi has joined the firm’s Capital Markets team as an associate.
Luisi will leverage her extensive services background and work with Avison Young’s clients on an array of investment sales and brokerage activities across a range of property types.
Before joining Avison Young, Luisi worked in investment banking at VTB Capital, where she managed a portfolio of clients that actively traded in emerging market securities.
Prior to that, she worked at the New York City and London offices of Merrill Lynch, where she serviced industry-leading mutual, pension and hedge funds, and actively managed a $50 million trading book.
Luisi is a licensed real estate salesperson in the state of Connecticut.
A graduate of Bucknell University, she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and International Relations.

Shawn Straka has joined Cushman & Wakefield’s Morristown office as senior director.
A corporate tenant representation specialist, he has more than 15 years of experience and expertise in the New Jersey market, and has completed over six million square feet in regional transactions.
Straka has completed several significant transactions for household-name companies like SHI International, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, Ferring Pharmaceuticals, Affinity Federal Credit Union, Daewoo International, Baxter Healthcare and Travelers Insurance.
Before his move to Cushman & Wakefield, he served as senior vice president at Jones Lang LaSalle, which he joined following its merger with The Staubach Company, his prior employer.
Straka held additional past industry positions with Coldwell Banker Commercial and Citibank Global Asset Management, and he has been recognized multiple times with in-house and brokerage industry awards.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from Rider University and a master’s degree in management from the New Jersey Institute of Technology.

Davis Polk announced that Lawrence R. Plotkin has joined the firm as counsel in its Real Estate Group in New York.
Plotkin was most recently a partner and head of the real estate practice at Chadbourne & Parke LLP.
He represents clients on the full spectrum of commercial real estate transactions, including the purchase, sale, financing, development and leasing of commercial properties.
Plotkin has extensive transactional proficiency representing large big-box retailers and shopping center owners and developers.
Earlier in his career, Plotkin served as an Associate/Special Counsel on the real estate team at Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP, in the Special Projects group at Bed Bath & Beyond, and as a real estate associate at Schulte Roth & Zabel LLP.
Plotkin earned his J.D. from Brooklyn Law School.

Stan Danzig has been promoted to executive vice president at Cushman & Wakefield.
Danzig has been with the firm’s East Rutherford office since 1981, focusing on industrial real estate.


Danzig leads a seven-person team focused on industrial leasing and sales, including major land transactions and both national and global corporate representation.
His experience covers everything from the acquisition of build-to-suit facilities, to the disposition of surplus assets, representing major developers and institutional ownership, as well as international and domestic consulting, management and appraisal assignments.
Consistently one of Cushman & Wakefield’s leading industrial brokers, he has been responsible for more than 100 million square feet of leases.

Colliers International announced that Robert Taylor has joined the New York operations as a Senior Managing Director.
Taylor will focus on corporate real estate services, specifically tenant representation, in the New York metropolitan area.
Over the course of his career, Taylor has worked with prominent clients such as Hard Rock Café, Fox Sports Grill, Reliance Globalcom, Fortress Investments, Louis Dreyfus Properties, Mass Mutual, and Mitsui Banking & Trust, among others.
He comes to Colliers from SRS Real Estate Partners, which he first joined in 2003 as Managing Director in the company’s Northeast region.
The corporate office division of the firm, then called The Staubach Company, later merged with Jones Lang LaSalle, where he served as Senior Vice President.
Prior to re-joining SRS Real Estate Partners in March of 2013, Taylor was a managing director with Cassidy Turley in their New York office.
Taylor holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from Fordham University.

Hidrock Realty announced that Robert Arnzen has joined the firm as Senior Director of Construction.
Arnzen oversees Hidrock’s development portfolio and manages all aspects of the design, consulting and construction management teams. He collaborates with the acquisitions and accounting departments to ensure the proper execution of Hidrock’s business plans within established budgets and time frames.
Prior to joining Hidrock, Arnzen was Senior Project Manager at Naftali Group, where he was responsible for overseeing the construction of high-rise luxury condominiums.
Prior to that, Arnzen was a Senior Project Manager for JLL where he was a senior member of the management team for the Madison Square Garden Transformation Project.


In total, Arnzen has spent more than 30 years in the construction industry and has worked on all types of ground-up construction and renovation projects including the Crowne Plaza Times Square Manhattan, the South Street Seaport Museum, the Falk Recreation Center at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and the complete renovation of Shea Stadium.
Arnzen also held the title of Director of Facilities and Construction for the New York Times where he managed the construction of the company’s headquarters and the New York Times Newsroom.
He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from The New York Institute of Technology.

United Realty, a sponsor of commercial real estate investment programs including the public non-traded REIT United Realty Trust Incorporated (URTI), has hired Christina Hutchison as National Account Manager for the Western Region and Ari Shaiken as Assistant Vice President of Sales for the Southeast Region.
Christian Hutchison will focus on developing relationships in the independent broker-dealer and RIA channels in order to broaden the selling group for United Realty’s broadening suite of alternative investment offerings.
Hutchison has more than 10 years of experience in the financial services industry and a broad understanding of varied investment products.
She previously served as national recruiter for Table Bay Financial, a Field Marketing Organization, and was regional sales consultant at Altegris Investments, a provider of alternative investment products.
Hutchison holds FINRA Series 7, 3, and 63 licenses. In addition, Hutchison holds a B.B.A. in Finance from the University of Houston Downtown.
Ari Shaiken will support Brian Neil, Regional Vice President for United Realty, to drive sales growth in the southeast.
Prior to joining United Realty, Shaiken served as Director of Client Communications for a wealth management company located in Garden City New York.
He graduated from Adelphi University with a degree in Business Management.
