WHO’S NEWS: Colliers appoints two, Meridian tabs Edelman

Colliers International Group announced the appointment of Jay S. Hennick as chairman and CEO and Dylan Taylor as president and Chief Operating Officer.

Jay Hennick, who founded FirstService Corporation, the former parent company of Colliers International, in 1989, and served as its CEO until earlier this month when he led the separation of FirstService into two publicly traded companies, will provide a transition in the key CEO position at Colliers International.

Under Hennick’s leadership and for more than 20 years, FirstService shareholders achieved a compound annual growth in share value of more than 20 percent.

All operational responsibilities will continue under current Global COO Dylan Taylor, who will also assume the role of President.
Taylor previously held the role of chief operating officer, overseeing the global operations of Colliers and its more than 16,300 employees operating out of 502 offices in 67 countries.

Prior to becoming the COO for Colliers, Taylor previously served as the CEO for the Americas where he led significant growth in both revenue and profitability for the region.

Meridian Capital Group announced that Mike Edelman joined the company as a senior managing director.

Edelman will be responsible for originating new debt opportunities, augmenting existing client relationships, and providing leadership of Meridian’s national agency business.

He will also play a central role in sourcing and placing loans generated by Meridian’s newly-formed investment sales platform.

Edelman joins Meridian from Capital One Multifamily Finance where he was a senior vice president responsible for northeast region agency production, managing several regional production teams and overseeing the company’s Freddie Mac relationship.

Prior to Capital One and beginning in 2011, Edelman worked for Beech Street Capital, which was acquired by Capital One in 2013.

He joined Beech Street after 15 years at Freddie Mac where he was a managing regional director for northeast production and sales.

Edelman has also held positions in the lending divisions of the Greater New York Savings Bank and Federal Home Loan Bank of New York, where he focused on underwriting and customer management.

Hunton & Williams LLP announced the addition of senior lawyer Anthony Bonan and the promotion to counsel of Brian J. Shortt. Both are members of the firm’s real estate team.

Anthony Bonan focuses on commercial real estate transactions, including acquisitions, development, financing, leasing and joint ventures.
He has extensive experience counseling institutional investors and lenders, real estate opportunity funds and private developers on all aspects of their real estate-related business.

Bonan joins the firm from Wachtel Missry LLP. A graduate of Columbia University, he received his law degree from New York University School of Law.
Brian Shortt, who joined the firm in June 2012, focuses on commercial real estate finance, with an emphasis on representing institutional lenders in the origination of commercial mortgage and mezzanine loans.

He has served as first-chair for a number of transactions, including commercial and investment banks that originate CMBS loan transactions, portfolio lenders, real estate investment funds and trusts, and a rating agency.
He is a graduate of Duke University and received a law degree from Boston College Law School.

Highcap Group promoted several of its long standing sales agents.
Jeff Weiss, Charles Chang, Michael Ferrara have been awarded the role of senior director. Ahmadu Ahmed will step in as director.

In their expanded roles, they will continue to service their clients and will act as mentors to the current team of agents, leading by example.

They will work more closely with the principals providing ifeedback in decision-making to help further shape Highcap’s path as a leading commercial brokerage firm.

NAI Global announced that Simon Hartzell joined the firm to lead membership development in North America for the organization.

Based in the company’s Princeton, NJ operational headquarters, Hartzell is working to identify potential new members to expand NAI Global’s capabilities in North America.

Hartzell joins NAI Global from NVR/Ryland where he spent five years in sales and marketing positions.

Previously, he was an associate with Marcus & Millichap Real Estate Investment Services and became one of the leading brokers in the Philadelphia suburban market.

Before that, he spent five years at AFG Financial Group, Inc. as a vice president, originating over $33 million in real estate loans annually and managing the firm’s expansion into new US markets.

Hartzell graduated from East Stroudsburg University with a Bachelor’s of Science degree and is currently pursuing his MBA in Strategic Management and

Leadership from Gwynedd Mercy University.

He earned a certification in finance and accounting through University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business.

Redwood Realty Advisors announced that Steven Matovski has joined the firm as a director.

Matovski will spearhead Redwood Realty’s expansion in Hudson County.
Matovski is recognized as a top-producing multifamily agent in New Jersey who specializes in serving clients in Hudson County.

An eight-year veteran of the industry, he most recently served as a senior associate at Marcus & Millichap.

Alston & Bird has expanded its Real Estate Finance and Investment Group with the addition of Stephen D. Millas as counsel in the firm’s New York office.

He arrives from Reed Smith LLP and works on commercial real estate finance, acquisition, leasing and development.

Millas represents institutional lenders in connection with the origination of CMBS loans and traditional secured real estate debt financings, including construction loans in New York, and senior and subordinated mortgage financings of all types of real estate.

Prior to his role at Reed Smith, Millas was senior vice president and chief counsel of the commercial real estate group at CIT Group Inc.
Earlier in his career, he was an associate at Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP and Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP.

John B. Egnatios-Beene has joined the national Real Estate Practice Group of Stroock & Stroock & Lavan LLP as special counsel in the New York office.

His practice focuses on New York real estate development with an emphasis on land use, zoning and related environmental issues.

Egnatios-Beene joins Stroock from the New York City Board of Standards and Appeals where he was General Counsel.

In that capacity, he provided advice to the Commissioners of the Board concerning the New York City Zoning Resolution, the New York City Building Code, the New York State Multiple Dwelling Law, and general administrative law matters.

He also spent several years as in-house counsel at the New York City Department of Buildings.

Egnatos-Beene received his J.D. from Case Western University School of Law and his B.S. from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.

Alfred Sanzari Enterprises announced that Jeffrey M. Jacobson has joined the company as chief financial officer (CFO).

Jacobson has 30 years of strategic experience in the financial management, accounting, auditing and operational aspects of real estate companies.

Previously, he was managing director and CFO of Peter Cooper Village/Stuyvesant Town, a 11,230-unit, 110-building multifamily and mixed-use complex in New York.

He also spent several years as owner and managing partner of Mast Realty Company and was director of finance and operations for Fawn Associates/Mill Management Inc. in Greenwich, Conn.

A certified public accountant, Jacobson earned his bachelor’s degree in economics and business administration from Vanderbilt University. He is a licensed real estate broker in the state of New York.

NAI James E. Hanson announced that Eric Demmers has joined the firm as a sales associate.

Based out of NAI Hanson’s Hackensack office, Demmers will focus his efforts on industrial leasing and sales in partnership with sales associate Russell Verducci.

Demmers previously worked in the pharmaceutical industry, managing development operations and also as a consulting specialist.
More recently, his focus shifted to business-to-business sales, business–to-consumer sales and marketing. His background also includes logistical planning, e-commerce management and systems analysis.

Dorian Lam, a vice president at First Nationwide Title Agency who focuses on new business development among Asian and other minority communities, was honored by the Asian American Business Development Center (AABDC) at its annual Outstanding 50 Asian Americans in Business Awards Dinner Gala.

Attended by more than 600 professional Asian Americans coming from a wide diversity of industry sectors, the event was held at Cipriani Wall Street in Downtown Manhattan.

The award honors individuals and serves to encourage the development of talent and leadership of Asian Americans.

AXA Real Estate Investment Managers has appointed Matt Holberton to Head of Investor Relations & Marketing for the U.S.

Holberton will be responsible for AXA Real Estate’s marketing, capital raising and investor relations activities across the U.S. as the wider business continues to expand its global presence and investor base.

Since joining AXA Real Estate in 2014 as a senior business development manager, Holberton has in both the global sales and investor relations teams.
He joined AXA Real Estate from Ares Management LLC and has 20 years’ experience in the real estate industry.

Arbor Commercial Mortgage, LLC announced the appointment of Daniel Kenny as Executive Vice President and Chief Asset Manager, Servicing & Asset Management.

Kenny joined Arbor in 2011 as a Senior Vice President to assist with the creation of a Credit Risk Management Department and has since then expanded his contributions across several departments and business operations.

In his new role, he will continue to report to John Natalone, Arbor’s Executive Vice President, Treasury and Servicing.

NAI James E. Hanson has hired Maria Osorio as a sales associate.
Based out of NAI Hanson’s Hackensack office, Osorio will focus on the greater Hackensack area, particularly Main Street, providing clients and customers with firm’s full range of brokerage services.

Osorio joins the Hanson team with strong background in property management and commercial property investment.

Previously, she managed residential and commercial properties throughout New Jersey for Elite Management Holdings LLC.

Osorio also has experience in redevelopment of new buildings and management operations.

Evergreen Insurance has hired Alan Pollak as its new Chief Operating Officer.
Pollack will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations and ensuring company-wide alignment with competitive strategies to enhance marketplace execution and service delivery to Evergreen’s 2,200 customers.

Pollack spent seven years as head of new ventures for Berkley Properties, a real estate investment firm. In 2008, he founded ASP Payroll Service and recently sold the company to a strategic acquirer.
