W&H Properties has gone full throttle in marketing three major retail space assemblages that “carry the potential to significantly alter the landscape of both Broadway and West 34th Street around Herald Square,” according to Anthony Malkin, president of Malkin Holdings LLC, which supervises the W&H portfolio.
At 112 West 34th Street — at the intersection of Broadway, Avenue of the Americas and West 34th Street, directly opposite Macy’s flagship department store — W&H is assembling a multi-level block of retail space containing as much as 150,000 s/f, with a major street-front presence on 34th Street.
Ownership has begun proactively marketing the space three years in advance of occupancy because of the large scale and complexity of the availability.
“This is the most exciting Manhattan retail opportunity in recent memory,” says Malkin. “It is a prime, high-visibility site in the heart of a world-recognized destination shopping corridor that enjoys one of the city’s highest sales volumes, with Macy’s as its neighbor. It has intrinsic appeal to upscale big-box retailers, based anywhere in the world, who are seeking a major branding opportunity.”
Malkin notes that the 34th Street corridor is among the most densely trafficked pedestrian thoroughfares in Manhattan, and that the W&H site is next to an entrance to one of the city’s busiest mass transit hubs.
“A major retailer establishing a large footprint across from Macy’s would be transformative for West 34th Street, further stimulating a renaissance that already has been gaining momentum,” says Malkin. “We began a targeted outreach program in December, and the initial reaction from the international community is one of intense interest.”
One block north of the West 34th Street site, W&H has assembled another flagship retail opportunity, a 60,000 s/f multi-level space at 1333 Broadway, which also is a direct neighbor of
Macy’s.
The site, on the northwest end of Herald Square, across from the pedestrian mall, offers 500 feet of wrap-around frontage on Broadway and on West 35th Street.
And a block further north, at 1359 Broadway, W&H has created a retail assemblage of a different nature.
“In line with our goal to change the entire tenant make-up and profile of our repositioned Broadway office portfolio, we’ve assembled a 14,000 s/f multi-level space at 1359 Broadway to attract a quality restaurant that would serve the corporate tenant base in the area and help spur night-time activity — not only for 1359 Broadway, but for nearby buildings, including W&H’s 1333, 1350 and 1400 Broadway,” Malkin explains.
The assemblage includes 6,200 s/f on the ground floor, 2,400 s/f on the mezzanine level and 5,300 s/f on the lower level as well as over 60 feet of frontage on Broadway.
