GID Development Group announced that Mexican-inspired restaurant group Empellón, founded by restauranteur Alex Stupak, has signed a retail lease at Waterline Square, the starchitect-designed, development on the Upper West Side.
Ahead of the opening of Cipriani’s first-ever large-format culinary experience at Waterline Square this year, the development has added another celebrated restaurant to its lifestyle offering.
“We are creating an entire neighborhood at Waterline Square, and having amazing culinary options is an
important component of that,” said James Linsley, president of GID Development Group.
“Empellón joining us as a premier restaurant partner further cements the dynamic, well-rounded lifestyle experience that Waterline Square will provide, and signifies the important evolution of this waterfront neighborhood.”
The Waterline Square location marks the fifth Empellón restaurant for James Beard Award-nominated
chef and founder, Alex Stupak. The restaurant, scheduled to open in late 2019, will feature 3,298 s/f of interior space and 1,619 s/f of exterior space with a total of 140 seats, as well as a new menu tied to Empellón’s West Village roots.
Empellón has additional locations in the East Village, West Village, Murray Hill and Midtown neighborhoods.
“GID presented us with a unique partnership opportunity here at Waterline Square and we’re excited to
expand Empellon’s footprint in another thriving New York City neighborhood,” said chef Stupak. “We look forward to being part of this one-of-a-kind development and offering both residents and the community a new dining destination.”
Located within Three Waterline Square, designed by Viñoly Architects, Empellón will front Waterline
Square’s nearly three-acre park designed by Mathews Nielsen Landscape Architects, offering a direct view of the park’s fountain and green space.
Joining Empellón and located directly across the park is Cipriani’s first-ever large-scale culinary
experience. Featuring interior design by Martin Brudnizki, the 28,000 s/f concept will feature a multi-faceted food and beverage experience complete with a food and retail market with numerous specialty food counters, Cipriani’s largest bar in the world and a full-service restaurant.
Waterline Square is a collection of three luxury residential buildings on one of the last remaining waterfront development sites on the Upper West Side.
