BETTING men might want to lay some odds on soccer bad boy Zlatan Ibrahimovic joining the New York Red Bulls.
The 6 ft. 5 ins. Swedish captain just paid $2.2 million for an apartment at the tony 101 Leonard in Tribeca, city records show.
It looks to be a sponsor unit, with 350 Broadway, LLC the registered seller. 350 Broadway is the original address for the luxury building developed by soccer-loving Italian developers, Bizzi and Partners.
The 33-year-old Ibrahimovic is in the last year of his contract with France’s Paris Saint-Germain.
After a career that has seen him play with clubs such as Juventus, Barcelona and A.C. Milan, the sports world has been buzzing with rumors of his next move. Bookmakers have put the New York Red Bulls in third place for the team most likely to sign Ibrahimovic, tied with Britain’s Chelsea FC at 14/1 odds, and behind LA Galaxy at 6/1.
Bizzi & partners converted the pre-war 101 Leonard into 66 luxury condos last year. It opened around the time Ibrahimovic was vacationing in New York with his wife and kids.
According to some media reports, Ibrahimovic was an original investor with Bizzi in the project to convert the former office building. The site was purchased for $53 million and the redevelopment cost a reported $106 million.
The soccer star has invested heavily in real estate around the globe, including Milan, Miami and New York.
