Hurricane Sandy’s sweep through New York hit retailers – traditional first-floor tenants – hard.
Newmark Grubb Knight Frank (NGKF) Retail has announced that, for its 2012 ICSC “Streets of New York” event, the company has partnered with the city’s top property owners to raise funds that will help local retailers across the city that have been affected.
The donations will be granted to The New York City Economic Development Corporation, which will distribute aid to those retailers and communities most in need.
This year, the annual NGKF ICSC event will be held on Monday, December 3, at Beauty & Essex on the Lower East Side.
“Retail is our lifeblood. We really feel an obligation to help in any way we can to get the streets of New York City up and running again,” said Jeffrey Roseman, executive vice president of Newmark Grubb Knight Frank Retail.
Other help is available to downtown businesses. A separate grant program organized by the Downtown Alliance with support from Goldman Sachs, Trinity Church, Citibank, The Durst Organization, The Howard Hughes Corporation, the FiDi Association, and other Lower Manhattan business leaders will offer grants of up to $20,000 to small businesses in flood zone A on the south side of Chambers Street.
