Kushner Companies announced the signing of a 15-year lease agreement with Outstanding Hospitality Management Group (OHM) to bring a 11,970 s/f food hall curated by Chef Todd English to 229 West 43rd Street.
With this deal, Kushner Cos. has now fully leased its 250,000 s/f retail condo in the New York Times Building, which it purchased in 2015.
The venue will be known as the American Market by Todd English and is expected to open in the summer of 2017.
“In less than a year, we’ve completely transformed an underperforming asset into a top-flight entertainment and dining destination,ˮ said Morris Harary, managing director of Retail at Kushner Cos. “The American Market by Todd English will perfectly complement the retail condo’s entertainment venues.”

“The American Market by Chef Todd English will be a celebration of our nation’s multi-cultural heritage, and an exploration of the rich diversity of the country through food,” said Richard Chinsammy, OHM’s Executive Vice President & Business Development Officer.
The American Market by Todd English will celebrate the nation’s cultural heritage through both casual and fast casual options.
The market will also include a hydroponic herb garden wall, which will provide fresh herbs and vegetables for the venue, and incorporate sustainable materials and lighting.
The signing comes on the heels of several other recent deals signed by Kushner Cos. in the retail condo.
In June, the firm signed a 15-year lease with Times Square Attractions Live, LLC to bring National Geographic Times Square: Ocean Giants, a 60,000 s/f interactive entertainment venue, to the West 44th Street side of the building. Ocean Giants will open next summer.
Additionally, Kushner Cos. signed a 15-year, 1,800 s/f deal with Mexican street-food style taqueria Los Tacos No. 1 in July for a first floor space that will open this winter.
Other leases signed by Kushner in the condo include the 49,000 s/f Gulliver’s Gate, an interactive miniature world. Harary executed these leases for Kushner Cos.
OHM is a St. Louis-based DBE operator (Disadvantaged Business Enterprise) which manages a portfolio of next-generation restaurant concepts operating over 60 restaurants at 11 of the nation’s busiest airports.
The DBE program is designed to ensure that firms owned and controlled by minorities, women, and other
socially and economically disadvantaged persons have the opportunity to compete fairly for contracts and subcontracts in the transportation industry.
The lease was arranged by JRT Realty Group, the nation’s largest woman-owned commercial real estate services firm, and JRT’s Greg Smith and Kelly Simek represented OHM Group.
The Shopping Center Group’s team of Chase Welles and Alexandra Escobar represented Kushner.
