Historic pizzeria to open NYC outpost

Lee & Associates NYC has arranged a 12-year lease for L’Antica Pizzeria da Michele, the century-old, acclaimed Naples pizzeria, at the base of 2 Bank Street in Greenwich.

The 5,600 s/f space is set to open this winter, marking its first New York City space. The asking rent was $150 per square foot.

This will mark L’Antica Pizzeria da Michele’s third location since its 1870 inception in Italy and subsequent Los Angeles outpost opening in 2019. It is widely known as the destination prominently featured in Elizabeth Gilbert’s book—and movie adaptation—Eat Pray Love. The restaurant will occupy 2,800 s/f on the ground floor and 2,800 s/f on the lower level, which was previously occupied by a Spanish restaurant, Barraca.

“We’re excited to have L’Antica Pizzeria da Michelle at 2 Bank Street.  They will thrive in this neighborhood filling a niche and bringing life to one of the best restaurant sites in Manhattan ,” said Brad Schwarz, Executive Managing Director and Principal in the retail brokerage division of Lee & Associates NYC.

He represented the landlord, Sky Management Corp., along with James Ficelman, Associate in the New York City office of Lee & Associates NYC.

“With the increasing availability of COVID-19 vaccinations and expanding indoor capacity limits, our restaurant scene is beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Restaurateur Francesco Zimone and his team—which helmed the Los Angeles opening—will benefit from Greenwich Village’s renowned, trafficked restaurant scene.”

Piero Massimino and Francesco Cirillo of UBIQ New York represented the tenant.

The restaurant’s plans for the location include a ground-floor lounge featuring a specialty coffee bar and salumeria selling meats, cheeses, and wines; a main dining room anchored with a wood-fired pizza oven; as well as a subterranean, temperature-controlled wine cellar level. The restaurant will import its core ingredients from Italy, with the dough for each pizza double-fermented over a minimum of 48 hours.

The residential pre-war rental building at 2 Bank Street, with six stories and 20 apartments, is located at the corner of Bank Street and Greenwich Avenue.
