Egg Collective, a women-owned and operated furniture maker, has leased 16,000 s/f at the Brooklyn Navy Yard.
The New York-based handcrafted furniture, objects and lighting manufactures leased space at Building 5, which is already home to a number of leading furniture-makers.
“Supporting emerging companies like Egg Collective that generate positive local economic impact, is the Yard’s mission,” said Johanna Greenbaum, Chief Development Officer of the Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation. “As a woman-owned business that also prioritizes sustainable production and leveraging local talent, Egg Collective is at the forefront of urban interior design and will continue to thrive as an innovative maker of home goods in its expanded space.”
Egg Collective is tripling its square footage from its previous location in Industry City. The larger space will allow the firm to invest in its machinery, expand production and hire more employees. The company will also continue to operate its 2,000 s/f client-facing showroom in Tribeca.
“Our new home at the Navy Yard allows us to maintain and expand two critical components of our company’s ethos — manufacturing locally and collaborating with innovative subcontractors to produce our furniture line,” said Stephanie Beamer, Co-Founder of Egg Collective. “New York City has been our home for over a decade so we’re thrilled to be able to grow as a company here while continuing to work with small scale businesses to support the local economy.”
Founded in 2011 by Stephanie Beamer, Crystal Ellis and Hillary Petrie, Egg Collective was conceived as a creative partnership by melding the founders’ backgrounds together, combining their expertise in art, architecture and woodworking. All pieces in its collection are designed by the company’s three co-founders and carefully constructed using the highest quality raw materials in Egg Collective’s woodshop or in collaboration with local small-scale fabricators.
