Community Connection

Recognizing that the Ironbound neighborhood is one of Fifty-Five Union’s greatest amenities, J&L Companies is embarking on a number of initiatives to showcase the strength of the community, its people.  The developer has partnered with Gallery Aferro, Newark’s oldest operating artist-run space, which was founded in the Ironbound in 2003, to display works of art from local artists throughout the property. Pieces by Anne Q. McKeown are exhibited in the furnished model homes, and additional works of art from Newark artists will be programmed into the property’s lobby, amenity spaces and interior courtyard.  In addition, J&L is currently considering submissions for an outdoor sculpture to be displayed in the public plaza located at the entrance of the property that will be activated throughout the year, creating a dynamic and engaging environment for residents, neighbors and visitors.  Other local business partnerships currently include Sihana Café to provide coffee to residents at no charge.

Fifty-Five Union places residents in the heart of a vibrant and dynamic neighborhood.  Known for its rich cultural diversity, the Ironbound District features a wide variety of restaurants, cafes, and shops, many of which showcase distinct flavors and traditions of Portugal, Spain, and Brazil. Also close by are several notable cultural and entertainment landmarks, including the New Jersey Performing Arts Center and the Prudential Center which hosts major sporting and entertainment events throughout the year.  Newark Penn Station, located just steps from Fifty-Five Union, provides a convenient transportation hub for commuters traveling to and from surrounding areas, including New York City and Philadelphia.
