Eyzenberg exits Avison Young to launch investment banking firm

Former Avison Young principal David Eyzenberg has left the firm to launch his own real estate investment banking firm.

“After an almost five-year run working with some wonderful people at Avison Young I have decided to take the plunge and launch my own firm,” said Eyzenberg.

“Now more than ever the need exists for sophisticated financial advisory to help navigate the CRE capitalization process. As the capital markets continue to evolve with new players, structures and regulation creating uncertainty we stand ready to be true advocates for our clients.”

Eyzenberg was the US lead for the real estate capital raising practice of Avison Young. He co-founded and oversaw a group that, during his tenure, consummated well over a $1 billion of financing transactions.DAVIDeYZENBERG2016

Prior to Avison Young, Eyzenberg was a managing director and head of commercial real estate for NewOak Capital. There, he completed property financing and CMBS/CRE CDO valuation assignments.

His tenure at NewOak began in 2011 after it acquired Prodigious Capital Group, an investment banking practice founded by Eyzenberg that consummated over $350 million in financing and advisory assignments.

Prior to running Prodigious Capital Group, he was associated with several boutique real estate investment banks. He began his real estate career on the buy side working for Merrill Lynch, Ramius Capital Group and Greenstreet Partners.

A graduate of New York University, where he earned a Master’s degree in real estate investment and finance and a Bachelor’s degree in communications, Eyzenberg is president of the New York University Schack Institute of Real Estate Alumni Board.

He teaches graduate real estate finance studies at the Schack Institute, Columbia’s Masters of Science in Real Estate program, and the NYU Stern MBA Program.

At his new Eyzenberg & Company, he will be joined by three associates who will help with the execution of CRE investment banking transactions.

Through a partnership at Anika Equities, a private equity vehicle focused on the creation and acquisition of ground leases, Eyzenberg & Company will offer ground/leasehold bifurcation/financing solutions in tandem with the ability to arrange any portion of the capital spectrum.
