On Wednesday, July 31, Douglas Elliman agents and executives, with guests Howard Lorber ,chairman, Douglas Elliman and Dottie Herman, president and CEO, Douglas Elliman top agents and managers, gathered at theBarbizon/63 for an open house cocktail party. The event took place in the three bedroom, 3.5 bathroom apartment currently on the market—14B with Douglas Elliman agent Jennine Gourin. Built in the 1920’s as a “Club Residence for Professional Women,” the Barbizon Hotel for Women stood apart from any other NYC hotels specifically for women due to its exclusivity. In order to be allowed a room, a woman had to have three letters of recommendation along with impeccable manners and dress. Between 1940-1960, residents included Joan Crawford, Sylvia Plath, Grace Kelly, Liza Minnelli, Cybill Shepherd, Candice Bergen, Joan Didion and Betsey Johnson. Following its transformation into condominiums in 2005, Barbizon/63 is now a white-glove building and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
