Big launch for little apartments in Times Square

Pod Pads, the latest concept in micro-living, are now available to rent in the heart of Times Square.

Measuring 600 to 800 s/f, the one and two bedroom pads come in at $4,000 a month.

There is no broker fee or security deposit, tenants can pay by credit card and enjoy the perks of the Pod Hotel, the hugely successful hospitality venture operated by BD Hotels at the base of the building at 400 West 42nd Street.

BD Hotels opened its first Pod hotel on East 51st Street in 2007 and has since added properties in Murray Hill, Brooklyn and Washington, D.C. with a Los Angeles outpost slated to open next year and ground recently broken for Pod Philly.

The Pod Hotel’s standard rooms are 110 s/f and have the highest percentage of occupancy across the entire BD Hotels portfolio.

“After 10 years of overwhelming success, we are excited to finally create the largest pod ever,” said Richard Born of BD Hotels.

“Now, with our new micro-apartment concept, Pod Pads, we are also offering plug-and-play living spaces for those looking for a more convenient way to live and travel.”

The 45 Times Square Pod Pads are designed to appeal to extended-stay guests as well as long-term rents.

As Born told travel news site Skift earlier this year, “Real estate is precious [in New York] and we think you can live in half the space.”

The fully-furnished pod pads offer renters “smart design, affordability, and convenience.”

Guests can choose from three layouts – one bedroom, one bath; small two bedroom, two bath; and large two bedroom, two bath – with each unit featuring a kitchen and living room.

The design concept is “mid-century modern” and features walnut flooring, Maharam living room rugs, and Kitchen Aid appliances. Decor is classic with pops of bright colors.

Each unit features floor-to-ceiling windows and exclusively available for Pod Pad tenants, the property has two floors of amenities, including a fitness center and indoor/outdoor guest lounge on the top floor with views of the city’s West Side and Hudson River.

This is in addition to Pod Hotel perks that include communal spaces and events, bar and full-service restaurant, housekeeping, cable and WiFi, and downstairs concierge.

Tenants also get priority access to The Polynesian, the property’s hot new tiki-themed bar opened in May by Major Food Group, with a charge account. Pod Pads can be booked directly through The Pod Hotels website for up to four months; for longer stays, guests can contact the hotel.
