The changing retail landscape is a hot topic right now, and as that discussion continues, there is no better time for the Real Estate Board of New York to honor the best and brightest deal makers in the industry through our 20th Annual Retail Deal of the Year Awards competition.
This spring, REBNY will recognize the retail deals that exemplify exceptional ingenuity and creativity with the Most Ingenious Retail Deal of the Year that demonstrates exceptional broker acumen (ingenuity and creativity), in addition to the Most Significant Retail Deal of the Year, which recognizes the most significant retail deal in its overall characteristics and importance to the New York City retail market.
The deadline for retail brokers to submit a deal for the awards is Thursday, April 5th at 5:00 p.m. The awards will be presented on Tuesday, June 12 at the Retail Committee’s 20th Annual Retail Deal of the Year Cocktail Party to be held at Club 101 (101 Park Avenue) from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.
Past winners of these prestigious awards demonstrate the remarkable skill of retail brokers across the five boroughs. For example, Cushman & Wakefield’s Joanne Podell – a three time winner of the award – was honored with the Most Ingenious Retail Deal of the Year Award last year for her work bringing Nike to 650 Fifth Avenue.
Another Cushman broker, Kenji Ota, won his first award for bringing the NFL and Cirque du Soleil to 701 Seventh Avenue.
In 2016, we highlighted the foresight of brokers Neil Goldmacher and Brian Goldman of Newmark Knight Frank, who engineered a transformative plan to secure a new dealership for Jaguar Land Rover Manhattan at 787 11th Avenue and honored CBRE’s Eric Gelber for securing Foot Locker’s flagship at 8 Times Square, the reimagined 1460 Broadway.
Eric Le Goff, James Downey, Frank Liantonio, and Michael Rotchford of Cushman &Wakefield were honored in 2015 for their acumen in securing a 24,000 s/f lease with Italian luxury goods retailer Bottega Veneta in the Upper East Side.
Patrick Smith, Mark Kapnick, Corey Zolcinksi, and Matt J. Ogle of SRS Real Estate Partners-Northeast, LLC took home the most Significant Retail Deal of the Year award for their work securing a cluster of retail deals that redefined Bryant Park.
For the past 20 years, these award winners have been among the biggest names in New York’s retail scene – and their work has helped shape some of the most impactful and innovative deals in New York City.
There is no better time for retail deal makers to share their success with the real estate community. All transactions submitted for this year’s competition must have been completed by December 31, 2017. We look forward to seeing you at the cocktail party on June 12.
