NEW DEVELOPMENT: Siza building unveiled; Bank makes change to condo

West Side tower design unveiled

At 86 years old, Pritzker Prize-winning Portuguese master architect Alvaro Siza thought he would never design a building in New York City, let alone a skyscraper.
Now, Siza’s first ever building in the U.S., a 37-story tower hugging Manhattan’s West Side and the Hudson River, has been fully unveiled ahead of the residential building’s launch later this month.
The renderings of 611 West 56th Street, developed by Sumaida + Khurana and LENY reveal new project details including the building’s elegant grid, sculptural crown and interiors designed by Gabellini Sheppard Associates.
611 West 56th Street is a limestone tower that contrasts with a sea of glass and metal. The building’s monolithic shape and Turkish limestone façade culminates in a four-story limestone crown. 611 West 56th Street features a collection of 80 custom one to four-bedroom residences as well as penthouses and duplex maisonettes featuring private terraces. Over 50 percent of the residences feature direct elevator entry.
Interiors are designed by Gabellini Sheppard Associates and feature a mix of modern materials and custom finishes.
Construction is well underway, with sales launching later this month. One-bedroom residences begin at $1.26 million.

Goto designed the building’s residences and amenities, including the lobby, a curated library salon, fitness center, yoga room, bicycle parking and residents’ lounge with adjacent children’s play area.
Two and three bedroom units at 856 Washington are priced from $1.495 to $2.575 million.
“We are excited to report that buyers are moving in this fall,” said Douglas Elliman’s Gregory Williamson, whose team, along with Elliman’s Maroni Team, is handling marketing and sales for the building. “856 Washington Avenue is the first condominium of this caliber to be developed in Prospect Heights.”
