Manhattan Skyline Management Corp. has signed a lease agreement to bring Jua, an upscale new Korean restaurant, to 36 East 22nd Street in the Flatiron District. In collaboration with Hand Hospitality, Jua is the first solo restaurant from Chef Hoyoung Kim, the former executive chef of two-Michelin-starred Jungsik.
This new fine dining concept will focus on wood-fired cooking and deliver a prix-fixe, six-course tasting menu that will be ever-changing. Opening menu highlights will include squid, truffle noodles and dry-aged, smoked Long Island duck.
The long-term lease is for 1,700 s/f of ground floor space with high ceilings, located at the base of a luxury condominium known as The Story House. The space includes 1,499 s/f at the basement level and 15 feet of frontage on East 22nd Street. Joshua Roth, Vice President, Retail Leasing for Manhattan Skyline Management Corp., represented the landlord on the deal and the tenant was represented by Ryan Chong of R&E Realty, Inc. “We are excited to welcome Jua to the Flatiron District, where a wonderful, high-end and growing culinary mix has created an exciting draw to the neighborhood,” said Roth. “Our 22nd Street location is the perfect space for Chef Kim’s first solo project. It nicely accommodates an open kitchen, centered on the wood-burning stove, which really creates an experiential meal in a warm and inviting atmosphere.”
Designed by interior design studio Two Point Zero, Jua’s cozy and elegant dining room has rustic and cabin-like flourishes with design materials including brick, concrete, wood and steel. There is also a seven-seat bar that will offer an a la carte menu and a selection of both natural and conventional wines, and classic cocktails with Korean touches.
