GNYCUC honors design, development and building pioneers

Members of the project team responsible for The Shed, who won a Chairman’s Award for Cultural development.

The Greater New York Construction User Council held its 2019 Chairman’s Reception at The Underground.

The development, construction and design communities gathered to recognize the most unique and innovative construction and development projects of 2019, as well as the individuals who facilitate such projects.

The program was led by GNYCUC chairman John H. Pierce of the Rockefeller Group.

Owners and developers attended, along with architects, engineers and construction professionals.

“The Chairman’s Reception provides a high-visibility platform to recognize some of the truly outstanding projects and people that make the New York City area so vibrant for building,” said Pierce.

“GNYCUC’s goal is to ensure that private and public owners, developers, builders and designers continue to drive bold and innovative construction projects that redefine the built environment of this city.”

Honored projects included The Shed NYC, at the Hudson Yards, which collected a cultural award.

Infrastructure went to the Hudson Yards Platform; Interiors were awarded for Convene at 101 Greenwich Street; Repositioning winner was 1155 Avenue of the America (The Durst Organization).

The Chairman Awards Residential went to Vornado’s 220 Central Park South; Higher-Education to 1 Place Plaza & 41 Park Row (Pace University); Public Space was The Vessel at Hudson Yards (Related Companies); Commercial was TWA Hotel (MCR Development); Hospitality award went to L’Avenue at SAKS and Healthcare to Mount Sinai Queens Stroke Center.

The 2019 Individuals of the Year were Howard L. Rowland, President, E.W. Howell, Individual of the Year for Leadership in Construction, and Jill Lerner, principal, KPK, Individual of the Year for Leadership in Design.
