George Comfort & Sons has finalized an agreement with Urbanspace, the team behind some of New York City’s most popular markets, to open a new food hall on the ground floor of 135 West 50th Street, its 925,000 s/f Midtown tower.
Under the 20-year lease, Urbanspace will open its newest location in 15,000 s/f across a portion of the ground floor and basement level of 135 West 50th Street with entrances on both 50th and 51st Streets.
Urbanspace will take control of the space in the first quarter of 2020, and the food hall is planning to open in Summer 2020.
Urbanspace current New York City locations include popular food halls Times Square Market, Urbanspace Vanderbilt and 570 Lex, as well as seasonal pop-ups Union Square Holiday Market, Holiday Shops at Bryant Park and Mad. Sq. Eats.
“Urbanspace has a successful track record of producing elevated public spaces with high-quality options and distinct design, which made it the perfect fit for our reimagined retail space.” said George Comfort & Sons president and CEO Peter S. Duncan.
Duncan, Alexander Bermingham, Matt Coudert and Andrew Conrad represented the landlord in-house, while Gordon Ogden and Benjamin Mohr of Byrnam Wood, represented Urbanspace.
