Sarah Trefethen
Barry Brandt started in real estate before he graduated high school. He grew up on the Upper East Side and his mother, Sheryl Brant, was a broker with a number of firms in the city. In the summer, Brant helped show apartments and did internships with real estate firms. The new head of Argo Residential’s brokerage division immediately fell in love with the business and its personalities. “It was very different from any other job that I could have taken on as a teen,” he said.

Bushwick gets its first passive house

REW
An industrial section of Bushwick is getting some much-needed greening with the addition of two new energy-efficient rental buildings. The first, at 424 Melrose Street, is an affordable housing project developed by The Ridgewood Bushwick Senior Citizens Council and The United Mennonite Church, which owned the site and several other buildings in Bushwick. The 24-unit project, which was financed by TD Bank, also had funding from the New York State Homes and Community Renewal organization, which consists of all New York state’s major housing and community renewal agencies, including The Affordable Housing Corporation, The Division of Housing and Community Renewal, Housing Finance Agency, State of New York Mortgage Agency, and Housing Trust Fund Corporation.

REW
Eric Hantman knows how to run a successful residential brokerage firm. Which is why he wants to keep his own boutique firm, Prime NYC, tight-knit and small. “I really don’t want to be a 100-person or more company,” Hantman told Brokers Weekly. “I see us as a 25-to-35 person boutique agency that really focuses on that personal connection and relationship and level of service, and just keep getting that repeat and referral client, and not just an army of agents that’s throwing advertising out there an hoping people call us. It’s easier to manage that way.”
