Employees of four properties managed by Douglas Elliman Property Management (DEPM) were honored at the 7th Annual Service Workers of the Year Awards ceremony by Service Workers Union 32BJ and Straus News.
John Egan was named Building Manager of the Year, Ideniz Cintron was named Doorwoman of the Year, Albert Staszkiewicz received the Green Award, and Otis Slaton received the Longevity Award.
Egan, long-time Resident Manager of 778 Park Avenue, is also president and Founding Father of the Hibernia Provident Society, an organization for building managers. John was born in Dublin, Ireland, where he had a successful career in music before immigrating to the US in the early 1990s. He is also an Executive-At-Large Board Member of Union SEIU 32BJ.
Otis Slaton has worked at Birchwood Court in Mineola for 46 years, and has been a member of Union 32BJ for 46 years, and that commitment and loyalty earned him the Longevity Award.
At 19, he left Alabama for New York, where he worked his way up the ranks from Porter to Assistant Superintendent and also became Shop Steward for his union colleagues at Birchwood Court. He is highly respected for being a considerate, humble man who goes the extra mile for his employer and residents.
After the massive destruction and personal losses that Slaton sustained during Superstorm Sandy, he kept a positive attitude, assisting neighbors in his close-knit community of Inwood, Queens, where he is a Trustee and Deacon at St. John’s Baptist Church.
Ideniz Cintron, Doorwoman of the Year, has worked at the Riverhouse Condominium in Battery Park City for over five years. “My favorite part of the job is the residents,” says Cintron, adding she enjoys getting to know resident families personally and watching their children grow up.
Albert Staszkiewicz, winner of the Green Award, has been working at 330 East 80th Street for 20 years, since immigrating from Poland. His job includes repairing plumbing, electrical problems and leaks as well as cleaning and general maintenance. “Albert excelled at the Green building courses,” says Robert J. Halabov, CPM, Account Executive for the property. “He has a great work ethic, cares deeply about the residents, and respects his co-workers.”
“We are so proud to have four of our buildings represented among the Building Service Award Winners,” says Jim O’Connor, President of Douglas Elliman Property Management. “When a building has great staff, it improves the quality of life for every resident. At DEPM, we put a lot of time and energy into training our superintendents to do the best job possible, and to pass that training and attitude along to their entire building staff. Clearly those efforts have paid off. Congratulations to all of this year’s award winners.”
