The Garis & Hahn art gallery has leased its first location at 263 Bowery.
The Lower East Side storefront, located between Stanton and East Houston Streets, consists of 1,789 s/f on the ground floor and 633 s/f in the lower level.
Gallery co-owners Mary Garis and Sophie Hahn were drawn to the Lower East Side for its burgeoning art scene, where galleries that are gravitating away from Chelsea are bringing some of the latest, cutting-edge art.
“The LES arts scene has gone from fledgling to flourishing in the past few years, with no signs of slowing down,” Hahn said. “[In the LES] there are new galleries with exciting programs and outlooks on contemporary art and we can only hope to add to this vibrant art scene, promoting great art, educating collectors and supporting artists.”
Winick Realty Group director Lee Block, who represented Garis & Hahn in the lease transaction, noted, “Sperone Westwater is on their block and The New Museum is a block away. The area is hip and the activity on Bowery north of Houston is trending south. There are a lot of new developments and hotels coming to the immediate area.”
CBRE represented landlord D.N.P. 336 Convent Avenue LLC in the lease transaction.
