The Young Men’s/Women’s Real Estate Association of New York has announced the inaugural winner of the David Winoker Scholarship for YMWREA.
Karl Chan, an MBA candidate, class of 2015, at Columbia Business School, has participated in YMWREA events with aspirations of joining the New York real estate industry one day.
The organization said it received many deserving applications, however Chan stood out to the Board of Governors who unanimously agreed that he is well deserving of such award.
“David Winoker was an important member of our organization and a very well respected figure within the New York real estate industry and we are pleased that Karl will be receiving this scholarship in his honor,ˮ the group said in a statement.
Winoker died in a skydiving accident in 2012 at the age of 49.
The Winoker Realty Company president over the family business from his father, Sid, in the 1980s and grew the firm from its traditional Garment District base to virtually every Manhattan submarket.
