Who’s News: Construction and design promotions, appointments

Skanska announced the promotion of Tom Maxwell to Vice President of Field Operations for the company’s civil operations in the Northeast. Maxwell most recently served as Project Executive. He has worked for Skanska his entire 49-year career in the construction industry and has been part of some of the most challenging and complex projects the company has delivered. Maxwell has extensive experience managing critical field operations for mass transportation infrastructure projects including the MTA’s Second Avenue Subway extension and Fulton Street Transit Center in New York City; the Gowanus Expressway rehabilitation in Brooklyn; the Fordham Plaza Bridge in the Bronx; and the Central Artery Tunnel in Boston.
Early in his career, Maxwell served three years in the United States Naval Construction Battalions, or Seabees, during which he was deployed to Antarctica to help build the iconic Geodesic Dome at Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station.
Maxwell is also a member of Skanska’s Corporate Safety Committee and in 2015 was awarded the Stuart Graham Lifetime Achievement Award – Skanska’s highest honor for senior project leaders.

Ashley McGraw Architects announced the promotion of Daniel Donovan AIA, LEED AP, BD+C to Associate Principal.
Donovan joined Ashley McGraw in 2003. His expertise in the K-12 school sector is highlighted by numerous
district-wide renovation programs and long-term modernization plans for structures and systems
throughout New York state.
A member of the American Institute of Architects, he holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Syracuse University.

DeSimone Consulting Engineers welcomed Patrick Brown to the firm’s Forensics Practice as Director of National Accounts.
He will facilitate the development, management and growth of post-loss services, providing oversight of client-facing activities and staffing.
Brown recently served as Account Executive with Envista Forensics from 2014 to 2018. In 2007, he began serving the insurance market at Mellon Restoration.
Throughout his career, he has coordinated engineering efforts on first- and third-party complex insurance claims ranging from $25,000 to over $100 million in total insured values, involving a wide variety of engineering disciplines.
He has been involved in numerous catastrophic and day-to-day operations and has provided direction and strategic advice to clients on a number of high-profile losses including Superstorm Sandy and Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria.

Talisen Construction Corp announced the addition of Philip Scandariato and Stephanie Rudman to its team.
Phil Scandariato has nearly two decades’ experience managing multi-million-dollar commercial construction projects with Skanska.
He has vast experience in infrastructure, corporate interiors, and healthcare projects for clients such as LaGuardia Airport, IBM, and Mount Sinai Healthcare System.

As a Business Unit Director, Scandariato manages the bid/buy/build process and plays an integral part in growing, mentoring, and training Talisen’s project team
Stephanie Rudman joins Talisen as Director of Business Development subsequent to a career beginning and maintaining strong relationships for some of New York City’s most well-known commercial construction firms.

Syska Hennessy Group has appointed Demetrios Plessias, PE; and Sean O’Shea, P.E., LEED AP, as associate partners in the company’s New York City headquarters.
Demetrios Plessias serves as associate practice area director for the commercial, mixed use, industrial and healthcare markets.

Plessias is a former vice president at WSP, where he worked for 14 years. Before joining WSP, he served as an electrical engineer at Robert Derector Associates and Libman Wolf Couples Design.
His experience includes such projects as the Hearst Headquarters in New York and the New York Botanical Garden.
He holds a bachelor of technology degree in electromechanical engineering technology and an associate degree in applied science in mechanical engineering technology from New York City Technical College in Brooklyn.
Sean O’Shea is a technical manager focusing on commercial infrastructure and interiors, as well as critical facilities.
He comes to Syska from SIGMA7 Design Group, where he served as the director of mechanical engineering. Prior to that role, he was a partner and the chief mechanical engineer at Power Concepts, LLC.
He has worked on such projects as the Federal Reserve Bank in Baltimore, Maryland and the Office of the State Comptroller in Troy, New York.
He received a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering from the State University of New York at Buffalo.

Hoffmann Architects announced the promotion of two members of the New York technical team.
Richard W. Off, AIA has earned a promotion to Staff Architect, in recognition of his advanced credentials and increased responsibility.
After joining Hoffmann Architects in April 2016 as Project Representative, Off earned a promotion to Senior Project Representative within a year, and then to Project Coordinator this past January.
He contributes technical knowledge and a meticulous eye for detail to building envelope projects, including copper roof replacement at the State University of New York at Farmingdale Lupton Hall, exterior rehabilitation at Countee Cullen Library, and historic facade restoration and roof replacement at First Presbyterian Church in New York City.
Off earned a bachelor of architecture degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a master’s degree in architecture and urban design from Columbia University.

Steffany Malarik, AIA has been promoted to Staff Architect, in credit to her evolving command of architectural design, as well as her expanded role in building enclosure projects.
Previously Project Coordinator, Malarik rose in the ranks from Project Representative to Senior Project Representative in under two years, with her skill prompting two more promotions less than a year apart.
Since joining Hoffmann Architects in July 2015, she has taken initiative in her projects as well as in building connection among her coworkers.
A graduate of the architecture program at Pennsylvania State University, Malarik has provided building enclosure design services for roof replacement at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, parking garage roof terrace rehabilitation at Morgan Stanley in Purchase, New York, and facade investigation and repair at Barnard College.

DeSimone Consulting Engineers has welcomed Amy M. Peevey to the firm as Director of Building Envelope Services.
Peevey brings with her 20 years of industry experience specializing in forensic and building maintenance services, new construction and building envelope commissioning, as well as, litigation support for many sectors of the construction industry including residential, industrial, commercial, educational, and healthcare.
She earned her bachelor’s degree in Architectural Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin.

All Season Global Solutions (ASGS) announces that Yvonne Pho has joined the company as a partner for EVOS, its construction turnkey solutions company.
Pho has 16 years of capital project and development management experience across various project types, including hospitality, commercial, residential, educational and cultural.
Most recently, she served as Vice President of Project Management and Service Delivery for Workfram.
Previously, she was a Director at Gardiner and Theobald.
Pho received her Bachelor of Architecture from Cornell University and her Master of Science in Real Estate Development from Columbia University. She was a practicing Architect and has been a LEED AP since 2004.

Ware Malcomb announced Heather Groff has been promoted to Director of Interior Architecture & Design in the New York office.
Groff brings over 20 years of interior architecture and design experience to her role at Ware Malcomb, 12 of which have been in the New York market.
She joined Ware Malcomb’s New York office as Studio Manager, Interior Architecture & Design n 2014. Since then, she has taken a leading role in the regionalization of the firm’s New York and New Jersey offices.
Groff holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Interior Design from Wentworth Institute of Technology. She is a LEED Accredited Professional, National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) Certified.
