Veteran retail broker Podell to be honored at annual REBNY gala

At the 122nd Annual REBNY Banquet on January 18, 2018 at the New York Hilton, we will honor Joanne Podell with the prestigious Louis Smadbeck Memorial Broker Recognition Award. The award celebrates a commercial broker with exceptional personal and professional integrity, leadership, prominence in the brokerage community, and service to REBNY.

First, a note on her professional achievements: Joanne has over twenty years of experience working with both tenants and
landlords, and is currently the Executive Vice Chairman at Cushman & Wakefield. She has represented high-profile landlords and well-known brands over the years, and for that work she has been repeatedly recognized as one of the best in the business.

She is a recipient of REBNY’s Retail Deal of the Year Award on three separate occasions. She is consistently considered one of Cushman’s top ten U.S. brokers across all service lines. In both 2014 and 2015, Joanne was named Cushman and Wakefield’s overall top retail broker in the nation, and in 2016, she became the first retail broker to be the sole recipient of Cushman’s global top broker recognition.

Clearly, her experience speaks for itself. But this is not the only reason we are honoring Joanne.

Joanne Podell

She is highly respected among brokers, owners, and tenants thanks to her work ethic and commitment to putting her clients first, no matter their prominence or size. Her passion for her work is clear, leading those who know her to question if she considers it work at all.

Joanne serves as a member on three REBNY committees – the Commercial Brokerage Division Board of Directors, the Retail Committee, and the Lower Manhattan Office Building Committee – and as we here have gotten to know her over the years, it is clear that she is a shining example of integrity and commitment to our industry.

Joanne is a critical member of our Manhattan Retail Report Advisory Group. She provides valuable insight, experience, and timely listings information in this role. Her understanding of the retail corridors we study as well as the needs of retail tenants helps to inform our research. Her input has enhanced the quality of our reports which have become increasingly widely read and reported by the news media.

Joanne is an exceptional and dedicated professional who carries herself to the highest standards both personally and professionally. We consistently rely upon her and she is a valued member of the REBNY community.

Above it all, though, Joanne is a kind, thoughtful person that all of us at REBNY are proud to call both a colleague and a friend.

It is thus with great pleasure that we will bestow upon her the Louis Smadbeck Memorial Broker Recognition Award.
