Real estate mogul Barbara Corcoran from ABC’s reality hit show Shark Tank spoke to nearly 400 real estate professionals from Dutchess, Orange and Ulster County on Tuesday, March 12, at the Ramada Conference Center in Fishkill.
Corcoran was the keynote speaker for TEG Federal Credit Union’s “Building Connections” event that featured her luncheon presentation and morning workshops designed to help real estate professionals build their brands, businesses and financial expertise.
“We created this event to bring together those in the real estate profession and provide them with some inspiration and valuable information that they could use to help build their business as we head into the peak real estate sales season,” said Ronald A. Flaherty, president & CEO of TEG Federal Credit Union.
“Thanks to the support of the Mid-Hudson MLS, Dutchess County Association of Realtors, Ulster County Board of Realtors and Women’s Council of Realtors who helped to get the word out about the event, we had a great turnout and received a lot of excitement and positive feedback from attendees.”
In her presentation, “How to Build a Business – Using Innovation, Branding, Leadership & Guts,” Corcoran shared her personal experiences and the unconventional strategies she used to build one of the most successful real estate businesses in New York City, from a $1,000 loan to a $5 billion-dollar real estate business that she sold in 2001 for $66 million.
Corcoran also is the real estate contributor for NBC’s TODAY Show, the author of the entertaining business book, If You Don’t Have Big Breasts, Put Ribbons on Your Pigtails, and her online best-seller, Shark Tales.
Workshop speakers at the event included Steve Richman, Genworth Mortgage Insurance; Jeanne Kelly, president, The Kelly Group; Christopher P. Jordan, president and CEO, LEXCO Wealth Management; Jean Riordan, vice president, TEG Retirement and Advisory Services; and Jesse Doughty, CPA, Pangia & Company, LLC. Presentation topics were focused around how to use marketing and social media to create sales, generating leads through referrals, retirement planning and tax information for the self-employed, and the secrets behind credit scores.
