Related Companies has unveiled four commissioned works by painter Derek Reist at 1214 Fifth Avenue, a 53-story rental tower located along Museum Mile in Upper Carnegie Hill.
Reist’s work will be permanently displayed in the building’s recently completed lobby.
Known for his unique handling of light and shadow, his work is in numerous private collections and corporate collections including the Milton Eisenhower Library at Johns Hopkins, General Mills, UBS, Pfizer and the International Peace Academy.
Daria Salusbury senior vice president and head of luxury leasing operations for Related Companies, the building’s exclusive leasing agent and Management Company, said, “The lobby space at 1214 Fifth Ave. is the ideal location to showcase Derek’s custom works, offering an abundance of natural light and two entry points that draw your attention to the paintings.”
Related has public displays of art throughout its protfolio, including Astor Place and Time Warner Center, as well as its rental properties, including One Union Square South, Tribeca Park and The Monterey.
In addition to the one-of-a kind works featured in 1214 Fifth Avenue, Related also has commissioned works in 2007 for the lobby of The Caledonia, on West 17th Street and 11th Avenue by the High Line, including a series of abstract canvases, a sculpture as well as a wall art installation. 1214 Fifth Avenue launched this summer and is currently 50% leased.
