The New York City Housing Authority has filed plans to build a 180-unit affordable housing tower at 405 Dumont Avenue in East New York, Brooklyn. The developer for the project is Dunn Development Corporation.
According to a permit application filed with the Department of Buildings, the agency is looking to construct a 12-story tower with 185,232 s/f of space. Plans call for 170,483 s/f of residential space and 14,749 s/f for a community facility. According to a representative from Dunn, the project will include a Friends of Crown Heights Educational Centers school with eight classrooms and an urgent care facility operated by BMS Family Health Center.
The planned tower will be built on a 31,474 s/f, 215-foot wide lot. If approved as proposed, the building will be 123 feet tall. Amenities in the facility will include bike storage at the cellar, a children’s play area and an outdoor recreation space on the ninth floor. It will also contain a social services office, a recreation area for tenants, a computer room and a community room.
The project will be near other NYCHA facilities. It is less than a block away from the agency’s Union Plaza Community Center. It is also near NYCHA’s Fiorentino Unity offices.
SLCE Architects will design the building. NYCHA has already applied for a permit to do foundation work at the site.
