Fosun celebrates deals at 28 Liberty office tower

Fosun Property Holdings welcomed New York City’s top industry members and commercial leasing brokers to 28 Liberty to celebrate recent milestones at the iconic, landmarked office tower.

Fosun recently has formed a partnership with Union Square Hospitality to bring a world-class Danny Meyer venue featuring a restaurant, bar and multiple event spaces to the 60th floor of 28 Liberty.

Fosun also has completed a 345,000-square-foot lease with the New York State Attorney General’s office, which will occupy floors 13 through 21 and floor 23 in the building.

In addition, Fosun has launched construction on a 200,000 s/f retail project that will provide a host of services to building tenants and area residents.

28 Liberty, a 60-story, 2.2 million-square-foot class-A office building, currently offers 425,000 square feet of office space and 200,000 s/f of retail space.

JLL is the leasing agent for the office space while Newmark Grubb Knight Frank is leasing broker for the retail component.

“The Union Square Hospitality Group venue and the Attorney General’s lease establish the building as a dynamic center for the business and residential community alike,” said Bo Wei, chief executive representative of Fosun Group in the U.S. and Vice President of Fosun Property Holdings.

“The improvements have transformed the building, enhancing its original assets and positioning it as a top destination.”

“We are excited to welcome new office and retail tenants as the property becomes a centerpiece of Lower Manhattan’s revitalization.”

The broker party featured entertainment and decorative elements with a 1960s theme to honor the era when the modernist building was constructed.

Prizes at the party included a vintage Rolex timepiece, a vintage Hamilton timepiece, dinner at Union Square Café, and a print from photographer Karsten Staiger’s NYC collection.

Originally One Chase Manhattan Plaza, 28 Liberty was designed by renowned architect Gordon Bunshaft, and was once the headquarters of Chase Manhattan Bank.

In 1961, David Rockefeller, as head of the bank’s building committee, selected the site and oversaw its construction. Given its historical significance, architectural uniqueness and public impact, One Chase Manhattan Plaza was designated as a landmark by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission in 2009.
