Industry’s $200,000 Mother’s Day gift helps home-bound moms

Citymeals-on-Wheels has announced that members of the New York City real estate industry have contributed over $200,000 that will fund the preparation and delivery of more than 31,000 meals for New York’s homebound elderly.

In what has become a Mother’s Day tradition, Citymeals Board Members Albert Behler of the Paramount Group, Inc., Alan Grossman of ARG Realty Consultants, Ltd., and Robert K. Futterman of Robert K. Futterman & Associates, LLC spearheaded this initiative to rally the real estate community.

Beth Shapiro, Executive Director of Citymeals-on-Wheels, said, “So many of our meal recipients have outlived their families and spend Mother’s Day alone with only memories of the children they raised. Thanks to the kindness and generosity of our board members and New York City’s real estate community, these moms will know they are remembered this Mother’s Day.”

In appreciation for the real estate industry’s unyielding support, Citymeals-on-Wheels placed a full-page advertisement in The New York Times. The thank you ad lists all of the contributors, features Nan, an 86-year-old Citymeals recipient, and reads, “Hunger doesn’t care its Mother’s Day.  Nan’s hoping you will.” The ad was paid for through a separate funding source.

According to Citymeals, 66% of its meals recipients are women.  More than 60% are over the age of 80 and 73% of recipients live alone.

Citymeals also asked New Yorkers to consider honoring their own mothers by donating through citymeals.org/mothersday. This year, the Jerome L. Greene Foundation will match every Mother’s Day donation from the public, dollar for dollar. Donors can also send special Mother’s Day e-cards, available on the Citymeals web site at citymeals.org/support-us/e-cards.
